LCWoody
It’s a good one. I’m a fan of all the info they put on the label, as most Mezcal’s do.

beasled
Cracked this from El Destilado. Mezcal continues to be one of the most beguiling, surprising and tasty spirits these days. Yum.

Sorry I missed this! I don't find this particular bottle to have much smoke, but they will differ from batch to batch I guess!
Charlutz
Anyone familiar with this mezcal? I’m fairly confident in my abilities with whiskey, rum and somewhat with tequila. This is my first mezcal and I’m struggling with the smokiness. I know it’s supposed to be a signature flavor but it seems overwhelming. I’ve tried it neat, with ice and mixed with grapefruit soda and a lime. Am I doing it right? Thanks!

Yes, you’re doing it right. Try it. Then, try and adjust it to your liking it. If nothing, Then maybe just just dive deeper. If it still sucks, give it up! Easy Peasy. MShoulder
I, too, recently started exploring mezcal. One of the first things I learned (and forgive me if everyone else already knows this) is that mezcal is to tequila as whiskey is to bourbon. in other words, all tequila qualifies to be mezcal, but not all mezcal qualifies to be tequila. At a minimum, that disproves the old adage that "all mezcals are smoky.." Most of them seem to be smoky, but the amount of smokiness varies a lot, so if you find one that is too smoky, you may want to try a different one. I've tried three so far -- one was so smoky that I felt like I was smoking a cigarette while I was drinking, but the other two were significantly less intense. All three also had a lot of different flavors that tequila doesn't seem to have. So, I guess I'm just trying to say don't give up -- keep hunting. Good luck!
smokinjoe
Like peat in scotch, the degree of smokiness perceived in Mezcal seems to vary wildly by individuals’ palates.

Trust your taste buds, that Mezcal is not any good. Maybe for mixing or something like that definitely not neat.

The Chacolo’s and Real Minero are lovely well made and flavorful. The unique and variable qualities of Mezcal never gets old
LCWoody
I have become such a mescal fan since the quality of bourbon has gone down so much since about 2015. But I’m afraid Mezcal has about hit its peak. I could be wrong though. My favorite local liquor store got some official Mezcal glasses in, so I’m trying it tonight for the first time. I have to say I am enjoying drinking out of it.
River Hills
So my daughter wants me to dip my toes into the Mezcal pool. What would you guys suggest as a starter? Probably most of it will be used for cocktails. Thanks!

I would try to keep it at about 90 proof or above. But that’s just my opinion….
