BourbonGuy
Living on Long Island especially out towards thee end I really don't have any good bourbon bars. It's mostly microbrews and wine. In 2012 I had the pleasure of doings the Kentucky Bourbon trail and finished it. I stayed in Louisville and fond that I felt quite at home at Dish on Market. The bourbon selection was smaller then others but at around 50 or so bottles at the time I had no complaints. The huge chocolate brownies they sold went quite well with the bourbon back at the room. So fellow SB members what's your favorite bourbon bar ?

danz
Went to Jack Rose the other night. Posted this on reddit:Went for a few hours on Friday night and had an awesome time. Got to try some legends and shoot the shit with some fellow geeks. Here is the lineup I went with along with a few notes (all 1oz pours):Started with a rye flight of Ritt21, Hirsch 21, and Ritt 23. The Ritts where far superior to the Hirsch to my palate. I'm sure if I had the Hirsch alone and not sbs with the Ritts it would have been exquisite, but next to the Ritts it didn't stand up. And the Ritt 23 was the clear winner here for me.Next was AH Hirsch 16 gold foil. A truly complete bourbon. Wonderful nose, perfect texture, fantastic finish. Everything a bourbon should be. How a 92 proof bourbon can have a finish like that I will never know. All that being said - I'm glad I tried it - but I have better bourbons at home. The Hirsch is a classic and lacking in nothing but to me it is not worth what it would cost in $/trade to get a bottle of your own.Next up was a flight of DC Willetts bourbons (13 being the oldest). All very good whiskies, none that lived up to they hype/secondary value. They did not have any wheaters in stock, and some of the older ones that I really wanted to try were not in stock either.I then tried some dusty Old Taylor BiB from the 70s I believe. It was very good if not a bit hot for a 100 proofer. Finally I ended the night with a 2000 Saz18 that was pre-vatting. It was distilled in 1981, so I'm not sure if it is even the same source as what is currently vatted (1984). Without doing a sbs with a current Saz18, I can tell you that it was very similar. I'm glad I tried it, but I'd say the current stuff is better. Then again my palate had taken a hit at this point so who knows.I had initially planned on started the night off with a legendary Willett rye, but the prices kept me from doing that. Iron Fist and Velvet Glove were priced in the $140 range for a 1oz pour. I was going to go with Rathskeller Rye for $48 but they were all out. Everything worked out though and I am very happy with how the night went. If any body has any good info on the pre-vatting Saz18 that was distilled in 1981 I'd love to hear it. ThanksEdit: also had some Bookers 25th prior to the Saz18 since my bottle at home is on its last legs.I had also been thinking for a while about trying those two Willetts, but I really doubt I can justify the price. Can anybody here who has had these share their thoughts on them? Does anybody think they are worth that price? Has anybody been paying enough attention to Jack Rose's prices over the years to be able to let us know if those and other prices have increased significantly over the past few years? My impression recently was that the highly sought whiskeys were increasing noticeably, even ones that are still in production, like the Van Winkles.I like Jack Rose, but the prices seem to be getting steep for me. I also really like Brandy Library, but a lot of that is because I like the calm atmosphere.
garbanzobean
I think Jack Rose raises prices pretty regularly on LE bourbons and ryes. Same thing with fashionable malt whisky distilleries. My strategy for going there is to just look for deals on the menu. There are always plenty of relatively affordable prices on really unique stuff, you just can't get stuck on trying THIS EXACT WHISKEY when you go there. For every enthusiast like yourself, there are probably 2-3 status queens with more money than common sense. And frankly, unless I was drinking something that was put to rest in the lat 19th or early 20th century, I can't imagine $140+ an ounce being worth it. But that's my personal opinion, and the great thing about capitalism is being able to allocate your funds based on what matters to you.
EvergladeSlim
I'm with Bean - I can't see anything being worth $140/oz, unless I just hit the lotto. If I recall correctly those two Willetts went for about $48/oz about a year ago. And as far as the rest of the prices are concerned, there are some very reasonable prices on that menu. You could spend $500 and check off several of the items on your bucket list, or you could spend under $100 and have several drinks that you would be unlikely to find at most other places. For all that I had while I was there - as well as two meals with appetizers, our bill came to just over $300 (way more than I have ever spent on a meal before, but reasonable considering all that I had). petrel800
Not much of a bar person, when I drink out it is typically before or after a nice meal at a nice restaurant. Here in Atlanta typically that is Chops. The GM there may know a thing or 2 about bourbon. Outside of Atlanta, Las Vegas is typically where we're splurging, so I would list Delmonico in the Venetian, Table 10 in the Palazzo and Spago in Ceasars as places where I've gone for a before or after dinner bourbon on a regular basis. When did those come out?I think sometime late last summer. I've not tried either one of them, but think that the Cured Oak is staved, while the Seasoned Wood is a experimental wheated expression. Chuck and/or Sku may be able to add something and/or already have some info out there on them.

GreenEggsandMash
The only place I have here in Ottawa is Hooch (http://hoochbourbon.ca/). They haven't pulled in many rares yet, but they do cycle their list fairly reguarly. I try to help them do that. I got excited for five minutes when they announced a new place opening here called The Bourbon Room, then I looked it up and the front page showed a shooter girl standing in front of a beer tub filled with Coors Light and Bud Light Lime. Just another place trying to cash in on the bourbon craze.
