Mine by far has been Evan Williams Black Handles 2nd place EWB bottles. Have to say 90% of the time.

Depends where I am. When I am at Binnys, it is a mix of everything. When I am at Meijer or Walmart it is usually some of the big guys stuff

Most of the 'others' I notice are asking for flavored vodkas. Michigan

I pondered this aloud not too far back during a discussion of shortages. Being in Texas, I see people grabbing what they think is a Texas bourbon (though it is most likely NDP unbeknownst to them). Other than that, mostly just the big boys of Jim and Jack. I've never seen anybody pick up the popular items in this forum like 4R, OGD, BT, Weller, etc...

I would say Jack Daniels is the #1 item I see grabbed on the bourbon isle while I'm shopping. The #2 item would be the 1.75 bottle of Jack Daniels.

It's a stark reminder that at the end of the day we really are just a small minority when it comes to the big booze business.

I think a lot of shoppers are like my sister. She keeps Jack Daniels on hand and will have cocktails about twice a week. She has no interest in "expanding her horizons'. Every month or so she will walk into a liquor store, grab a bottle of Jack and be out within 3 minutes. The most common thing I see in the store is someone grabbing a case of cheap beer (Keystone etc.) and a cheap Canadian or Brandy. (Those of you fortunate enough to be from MN or WI know that on a Friday or Saturday night E&J or Korbel brandy flows like water)

The average Joe is not going to research the products or try multiple things, they are going to grab what they like and get out the door.

I live in a vacation area of MN and a friend who manages a successful liquor store told me that his bourbon sales go up 10 times in the summer and it is bought mainly by tourists from Iowa. Bourbon is becoming more popular locally as it is in other parts of the country but enthusiasts of specialty bourbons are still rare birds. There are more of us than 5 years ago but I think it is a small percentage of the big picture.

I think I study the aisle too much... I never see anyone take anything I would consider "good" but yet the good ones are always gone! usually I see people take MM and EW black.

Depends where I shop ... one store - Jack Danial's. The other (on the westside) - Bourbon Supreme (LOL) ...

Seriously though, the scotch, rum and vodka aisles get much more attention in this part of WV.

Either Jack Daniels or HRD (Hood River Distillers) Vodka. The latter is the best-selling liquor in Oregon, but the JD generates more in sales due to its higher price ($22.95 vs $7.55 for the HRD).

The JD sales don't bother me a bit, because 1) I own 40 shares of Brown-Forman stock, and 2) the last thing I want is for these JD buyers to become interested in good bourbon (too many of those already!)

I hardly ever see anyone because I generally visit between 9 & 10:00 AM on weekdays. That way I can take my time and chat with the owners if I feel like.

This one time at band camp....oh wait, wrong forum.

Quite a few times at liquor stores, I've seen people actually reach for Fireball Cinnamon Whiskey. Turns out, I hear Fireball Cinnamon is a huge seller.

I guess this is how some liquor stores get their Pappy and BTAC allocation.

Look at what is closest to the cash register, Vodka and flavored vodka.

And more flavored vodka, filling the sale bins as well. Around here if they grab a Bourbon it's usually Jack or Evan.

Funny, I'd never thought to pay attention to this before, but it so happens that just an hour ago I was in Total Wine staring at the bourbon aisle. Yesterday I had walked away from the last bottle of Four Roses single barrel, left it sitting on the shelf. That haunted me for some reason so I stopped back in on my way home from work this afternoon to see if it was still there (it was, I bought it). While I was looking everything over to see if there might be something else I should grab (there was, last bottle of Four Roses small batch) three different groups of young men wandered by looking. Two grabbed some awful looking honey infused whiskey that was on sale, the third grabbed that Fireball swill. For A moment I felt compelled to speak up and say something (put that down and look over here young lads and save your souls, or something like that) but I figured pearls before swine, save your breath.

Beats to that punch, often by the case when sales run.

Otherwise, I also see a lot of Windsor go out in my area.

When I see others pick up bottles in the "bourbon/whiskey" aisle, they generally grab flavored whiskey or mid-shelf stuff like Makers, Woodford or Jack.

It's almost always the same story every time we go browsing the whiskey/whisky sections. IF, and that's a big if, there's anyone at all in the aisle it's the younger guys all picking up flavored something or other. I've actually never seen any of them grab actual bourbon, even the bottom shelf stuff. There may be someone also browsing the middle/upper shelf stuff but that's VERY infrequent. Which begs the question, where's all the rarer stuff then? I guess I must not time it right, or it's an insider thing.

Lots of blended and flavored whiskeys are purchased when I'm perusing the aisles. I did see a couple get some Woodford Reserve once.

Mr. Daniels seems like he gets invited to a LOT of parties.

However Most folks seem to be picking up vodka or rum, then grab a case or two of beer.

Jack Black is by far the most purchased where I go. It's the greatest whiskey that ever was, ya know.

I've seen people grab Bulleit, Breckenridge, and Jack. But most people buying whiskey are reaching for the flavored variety: Fireball, that Green Apple Crown, etc.
