Based on a few reports, the 2015 Small Batch LE will be a blend of:

16 year old OBSK

15 year old OESK

14 year old OESK

11 year old OBSV

Ya saw that too. Was surprised and happy to see the higher aged stuff in there after the 2014 Small Batch topped out at 13 years. Really didnt expect it after JR pretty much said the 125th ate up most of the older stocks and then the LE Single Barrel getting discontinued.

looks like it could be pretty stunning, although people will be really gunning for this given the demise of the single barrel LE

I've really enjoyed every K yeast bottle I have come across, so I will definitely try to get one.

This will be the one LE this year that I make more than a halfhearted attempt to get ahold of.

given the age and yeast strains here i think this has a chance to be better than the 125th.

So, is the regular Small Batch the same blend of these four recipes, but not as old?

Standard Small Batch is OESK, OBSK, OESO, and OBSO

These are the same three recipes used in 2012 and 2013, both of which were @#$% amazing. Sure, different ages, and I hope it is different from those. I just can't recall finding a SmBLE where I thought "Wow - Jim Rutledge really poked the dog on that one", so I'm definitely in if I can find one. This is one of those LEs that for my money consistently punches above it's weight (assuming the retail isn't hitting the stratosphere yet!)

We had lunch with Jim last Thursday and he said they really struggled to get something that worked for the 2014 version. This year he said he is very happy with the selections.

I am a huge K yeast fan so I will be all over this one if I can find it anywhere.

I have a bottle of the Small Batch now, which I assume is the 2014. Do the bottles actually say "LE" or is that just a reference term? If they do not say "LE" how will we be able to ID the 2015 over the 2014? Will the label be different, etc.? I am new do the "LE" designation.

The Small Batch Limited Edition is a very different whiskey than the standard Small Batch. The Limited Edition has a much different looking label:

is the LE Sm B usually released at the gift shop during KBF?

would it be at the beginning, 9/15 this year?

I'm thinking of driving down as it seemed people could easily get bottles instead of gambling on finding a bottle at Binny's--they don't seem to get a fair allocation for such a big market.

Sounds really good. I would like to get lucky enough to find one this year.

Binny's gets plenty, it just flies out the door in a few minutes, literally. Policies regarding LE's seem to vary among the various Binny's locations so don't expect to hear consistent information from one store to the next. Unless you can figure out how to hit the store on the exact delivery date, usually before the store opens, then be able to stand in line until the truck comes, you're probably not getting any. That's just the reality of what's going on around Chicago.

The giftshop started taking reservations on Monday and quickly sold out. How this info gets out to the world is anybody's guess. I called the GS on Monday for a separate reason and couldn't get through or only got voicemail. A 4R rep returned the call and during the conversation the LE reservation topic came up. The reason I couldn't get through was due to call volume of people looking to reserve a 2015 LE, by the time I found out about it they had long since sold out so unless you got tipped of and got through early Monday sounds like you are SOL for picking one up during KBF.

Sometimes I feel we enthusiasts are a pack of herd animals circling, circling, waiting to pounce on these LEs.

I suspect it is through "social media". The Tweety, Book of Faces, that kind of stuff. Don't do much of that so I guess I am going to miss out going forward on a regular basis.

Oh well.
