Delivered today: SAOS 10YO cask strength bourbon selected by Blake for Bourbonr. I love the cask strength rye's, so I am looking forward to this bottle. While traveling in San Antonio TX, I had a couple of hours in between meetings so I looked at a couple of the big retail liquor outlets for Weller 12 - no luck. While not bourbon, I did find a Longrow Red 11YO Port that came home with me in my suitcase.

I was lucky to purchase a bottle of ORVW at $52.59 (via a store raffle, I had to choose between BTAC Handy, Eagle Rare 17, and OFBB) and a bottle of Russell's Reserve 1998. Apparently the distributor said that Minnesota only received 15 bottles, not sure if that is fact or fiction, but couldn't pass it up. I am not hopeful to find any more limited editions this year, but I have my name on a few lists, we shall see.

I picked up a few bottles of High West Midwinter Night's Dram. Haven't had it yet, but the reviews for the recent batch were very promising.

Driving through Massachusetts and Rhode Island, I came across some Elmer T. Lee at a few different stores. $30 at one store and $40 at the other. It's one of my favorites, and I haven't seen it for under $80 in a few years. I bought it all. 8 bottles in total. Now I just have to figure out how to get it home to Texas.

I travel every week for work and have transported hundreds of bottles at this point. Here is my new technique. I buy a small and medium heavy duty box from Home Depot along with a roll of bubble wrap. I bubble wrap the bottles and pad the small box with bubble wrap. I seal that up and pad the medium box with bubble wrap. The small box fits into the medium with padding on all sides. I then check it under the plane. So far, so good.

For fewer bottles, I use a vini bag. It's an inflatable reusable bag that holds most bottles. That offers good protection. Hope this helps some folks out. When I have 3-4 bottles, I bubble wrap them, and put them in my suitcase - no problems. The Home Depot trick was for weeks when I had more bottles.

Excellent advice. Almost identical to what I've done today. Accept change home depot for Staples.

Just have to be careful when checking. Official TSA regulation is no more than 5 liters and nothing 140 proof and higher. In September when I got my luggage home, all the wrapping was cut just enough to see the label and proof.

For my up coming trip to KY I planned on using these http://i00.i.aliimg.com/photo/v0/344493460/Wine_Bottle_air_column_bag_packaging.jpg

Would I be better off using regular bubble wrap if the TSA are going to go rumbling through it?

Well I suppose it depends on what airline you are traveling with. Southwest has similar bags and they package it for you at the check in desk. Those look see through and are probably good enough.

Picked up a couple of SAOS 10 yr. - vin.'13, thought I read some good things out here about it, so thought I would try it out. Also found me a TH in the wild, that and the $1.97 for gas that I saw was 2 surprises for the day! I don't really care that much for the TH ,but pretty hard to pass on it @ mrsp. Could come in "handy" later.

nice finds! I had a tasting of the SAOS 10 yesterday and loved it. I'll probably pick up a bottle of it sometime soon.

WR Master's Collection 1838 Style White Corn - first sip was not so great but as I'm working through about a 2 oz pour it's growing on me a bit, first thought is it needed more time in the barrel as I find the case with most Woodford products

Grabbed a bottle of FR SB and the last Monkey Shoulder from an exclusive release a couple weeks ago. Reading all your prices makes me sad...drinking cost to much in Canada!

I got my friend down in Hattiesburg to grab me some Baby Sazerac and High West Rendezvous Rye since I haven't seen it around here. The RR was a little overpriced, but I've been wanting to try it for a while. ended up being ~90 for both I believe. Almost had him grab some Willet for me too, but I didn't want to spend over 100 haha.

The downside to that bubble wrap is if it pops anywhere all padding is lost. Smaller bubbles are more redundant.

I just paid 33.99 for 2 4RSB. I guess we are lucky price wise around here

Picked up a bottle of OWA, and two bottles of Elijah Craig 18! Very pumped to try the Elijah Craig 18, as I've only had it in a bar several years ago--I missed the old release of the 18. It was pricey, but have wanted to get this since they announced the new release.
