Really enjoying the comparison in this and RHF since it's less cost and more available. I lined up my CEHTSmB in the bunker to be opened soonish when I have more shelf space. I will have to make sure I don't kill off the RHF before I do so I have something else from the same distillery open at the same time.
mbroo5880i
I am finishing off a bottle of GTS 14 tonight. No special occasion. Actually, I am taking it down to the 5 ounce mark and then gifting a couple of pours to a co-worker. He has never had GTS and is a long-term bourbon drinker. He likes to explore but, obviously, GTS is a difficult one to obtain. He lives a fair ways away so inviting him over for a "pour night" is difficult. I have a backup bottle but, even if I didn't, who cares.

If I don't care for them on their own still then I will find something to vat them with, probably something I have open like OGD114 and the Bonded JB:EW vatting to help kill those bottles off. Just tasted these. the BUB isn't too bad really, could finish off the last 250ml without vatting it I imagine but may vat some of it anyway. The ROR is really bland, again it could be finished off on it's own (unlike that alberta garbage) but it may get vatted just the same to give it some more character. Such a different animal than the 1792 Port Finished that I have been drinking from recently. Whereas, the 1792 was full of sweet red fruit and was rather disjointed throughout most of the nose, front and middle, the Bowman is more integrated early, before the Port blossoms at the end in a pleasingly dry manner. I like the 1792 well enough, but the Bowman seems better executed for my tastes. I go back and forth on port finished bourbons, but every now and then they hit me just right. Drinking a HW finished in a port barrel tonight while watching football and it is hitting on all cylinders. Just delicious. flahute
Been lazy watching football all day and forgot to brush my teeth until mid afternoon. Of course I decided it was time for a pour shortly after so knowing I needed to sacrifice something inexpensive to overcome the toothpaste flavor, I chose OGDBIB. Now I've always referred to OGDBIB as the one bourbon that can still taste good on an off palate night. I've made another discovery, it can also overcome toothpaste mint with no sacrifice in taste. Is there anything this bourbon can't do?
Paddy
4RSmB and football is proving to be a pretty good combination. BTW, Carolina sure is looking like a beast!
mbroo5880i
I have decided to add on a pour of ER17 as I am watching Carolina throttle Arizona. I am the only person in my household rooting for the Panthers. With Bruce Arians and several former Colts on the Cardinals team, I seem like an outsider. I love the Colts but I have no allegiance to the Cardinals or any former Colts. I am rooting for Cam, Norman and the Panthers to win it all. Carolina is a Beast! I've been here since 03 and a fan since that point and this is the best "team" I've seen in football in a long team, with the depth, the ability and talent on both sides of the ball, the coaching at all levels, head office staff, it's almost amazing. The difference is that it's not a showoff team they just do the basics that make them and all great teams winners. The excel at the "blocking and tackling". But what I love them most is that they clearly have fun doing it and it's been a while since I've experienced that in any NFL team. Back on topic - I'm celebrating the win with PVW 20 - I'm holding back the 15 and 10 for the Super Bowl...

If so, my wife's cousin is the Panther's play-by-play man on the radio. I remember the first time Carolina went to the Super bowl - we were all rooting for them because Jimmy was calling the game. On topic - a big pour of EC12 tonight because I bought a whole bunch of it this weekend.

OGDBIB in the glass tonight. Don't have enough BIB's available in our market to make a fest out of it but I do have a freshly purchased McKenna that's just begging to be opened. Oh! I have an EHT Single Barrel as well. I realize this isn't necessarily in keeping with the spirit of the classic inexpensive BIB, but it's what I got. smokinjoe
Long driving day, and sitting in my hotel before heading down for dinner, with a pour of Wild Turkey 101 that I picked up en route. This is such solid whiskey, all the way through. Still just a touch lighter on the nose than I would like, but I can live with that , as the rest of it is very nice. I continue to be mightily impressed with the strides forward that WT has made with this flagship brand of theirs.

fozzy71
A small pour of my frankenstein alberta rye dark batch vatting to start. OGD 114 is on deck as part of the bottle killing mission, and my pint vatting of OWA:MM46 is on the counter also to try and decide if I should mix up a 750ml to consolidate the half full bottles of them. Fort Knox
So many long work days since the beginning of December, I'm losing count....and I'm an Accountant....so that's saying something. Tonight's reward started with MM46 while I took care of some personal bills. After that only depressed me more, I had to up the proof, and enjoyment a little, so I switched to a bigger pour of OWA. Now that that's gone, I decided to go for one that's really been hitting the spot lately....Stagg, Jr., Batch 5. Poured a little more than I meant to. Oh no!
