Went back to another pour of the Bowman Double Barrel and was again blown away, what BT does with this juice and the 10 year expression at least to me is just phenomenal

Started last night with 1 oz of ECBP neat in a glen cairn. First taste was hot but opened up nicely with a bit of water. Followed that with an oz of pikesville 110 the same way. I really like this rye and it had just the right amount of spice so that I knew I was drinking a rye after the bourbon. Finished with 2 oz of EC12. I'm down to the last 1/3 of my 'handle' and going to grab another. They are about $45 here and still on the shelves. I was looking for the extra wood taste, what with all the debate about what the NAS version will taste like, and whether it may be an improvement for those who don't like overly wooded whiskey. I don't consider myself a lover of wood heavy bourbon. Don't care much for WRDO. I've always loved EC12 though and even when trying to be sensitive to the wood taste, still really like it. You can taste the wood and I found it pleasant as always.  Was good neat and really good with a few drops of water.

My wife and I met my mother and sister at a restaurant that has a pretty good whisk(e)y selection.  I enjoyed a pour from a bottle of Parker's Heritage Wheat.  I've been drinking it there for a while, and assuming it is the original bottle, I might be the only one.  $17 for a generous neat pour.  Maybe because the Van Winkles are right next to it for $16 (10yr) and $21 (12yr), the PH Wheat is preserved for my consumption.  Really wish I could have picked up the PH Wheat when it was released.  My best chance was at a Black Friday whiskey sale when the Pappy Van Winkle series was released but the last bottle sold to the gentleman immediately preceding me in line.

Jack Daniel's Single Barrel Select. Nice! And a SS Blanton's. Solid favorite.

A pour of Buffalo Trace with a big cube. Good, nice and easy...not my favorite but good and gets the job done.

All over the board tonight.  Treated myself to a PVW 20, then a Forty Creek Double Barreled, then 4R OBSF.

Worked on a couple of samples I've had sitting for a while last night.  1st was a 1970's Old Forester dusty...a little musty but nice flavors.  Followed that with a sample of a dusty ND Old Taylor.  Hard to believe it's only 6 YO bourbon (and probably isn't).  Finished off with a small pour of Jefferson's Presidential 30 YO.  Dry, oaky and a great pour to end the evening.

I need another bottle before mine runs out.

Good to have two bottles of Blanton's Straight from the Barrel and have it pretty much always available over here in Germany. Just having a pour. It's heaven in a bottle. Probably my fave Bourbon ever.

Sittin' out by the outdoor fireplace, and running through a comparison of some favorite BIB's.  Beam BIB, HH BIB 6Yr, and VOB BIB.  All, so different, and all so delicious.

Quickly:

Beam- Sweet and syrupy.  Decadently dense and rich.

HH- Thick sweetness, but balanced beautifully with HH grassiness wood notes.

VOB- Lovely moist tobacco notes, while dryish on the finish.

WINNER:

ME.

Yessir!  ~$45 invested for 3 entirely different and delicious whiskies is beyond what could be hope for.

Really fun to run them up back-to-back-to-back.  It really shines a light on the different house styles.

Finished the last few milliliters of a handle of Weller SR (my first WSR ever) I bought a couple of months ago.  Yum.  Wish I could find another around here.

Am now sipping on WT101 (Hi, Paul) while psyching myself to do the dishes.  Hope there's something good on TCM or HBO.

Went over to a buddy's place for dinner tonight with the wife.  My buddy is also a bourbon fan, so we always have a few good pours.  Tonight, I started out with some ETL while he was prepping the food, then I pulled out a bottle of Topo Eight Oaks, which I had tried before and not liked at all, but wanted to see if it had gotten any better with time, since Topo's thing is to put a chunk of toasted oak in each bottle.  Nope....still terrible.  It might be the first bottle I pour down the drain.  So, next my buddy tries to make it up by taking out his bottle of Aberlour A'Bunadh Cask Strength.  It's not bourbon, but damn, it was good.  After dinner, we decided to do a SBS with a bottle of Stagg, Jr, Batch 5 that I brought and his CEHTBP.  We agreed that while they're very similar, we like the CEHTBP better.  Afterwards, he couldn't help but pour us both a small pour of JDSBBP to top off the evening.  His bottle is from the same barrel as mine, so the familiar taste was most welcome.  Never thought I'd say this about a bottle of JD, but that's some of the best whiskey I've had in my short time of true whiskey appreciation.

Was out with the wife and some friends last evening for dinner in Manhattan before going to see Jersey Boys.  Asked for a Knob Creek.  Waitress said "we have rye or Bulleit."  I wasn't going to get anywhere with her, so I asked for a Maker's Mark.  And then another.  Always decent enough to get the job done when out, but still not something I regularly stock at home.
