Almost uniformly the order of preference of these four was as follows: Eagle Rare (local store pick--or at least they got a sticker saying it was), Henry McKenna BIB, 1792, 4RSmB. The low placement of the 4RSmB in the order of preference really surprised me! The good news was that we did a draft at the end of the night so each guy could take a bottle home and, as the host, I rigged it to get the last bottle so everyone else could have their preference. So I will be able to spend a little more quality time with that 4RSmB and see what's going on. With what you had up against it, the placement of the 4RSB seems about right (though I've never had 1792). Those are some bourbons with character and I find that the 4RSB is a little one note. It's a bit disapointing, especially considering how much I love the 4RSiB. Edited October 28, 2016 by BDanner

Compared to the others in your tasting it's outgunned in proof by 2 of the 4 and I am not surprised about its placing in that line up. That said, taken alone I very much enjoy a good 4Rsmb ( my last one was not so good) it's subltle at 90p but when "ON" it displays the characteristics of the 4 component whiskeys in a nicely layered fashion. I just finished a second pour as the first was so good it warranted another. Enjoy your quality time with an often unheralded but fine 4R expression, I certainly did. MTNBourbon
Bulleit Small Batch 10 Yr. Old (91.2 Proof) with some coke and an ice cube. This bottle is almost gone, a few more pours left.
Richnimrod
Scored a bottle of this year's edition of Old Forester Birthday Bourbon, and promptly opened that sucka up. What a great nose!!! However my impression of the single small pour was that it skews a good deal (too much for me) toward the citrus rind. Maybe it'll improve with some air time. Richnimrod
Just now, MTNBourbon said: How does it compare to OF Signature? The nose easily surpasses OF Sig. I have yet to have one of the recent bottles of Sig that seem to be gathering some negative comments. I've been working through a family size jug that I opened in the summer; but bought about a year before that). So, I can't relate it to the possibly variable stuff out there now. Comparing the current OFBB to the Sig I have had for the last few years, I'd say the BB has much more citrus, and considerably less of that 'shellac' undertone that I've found in the Sig. Some refer to it as 'acetone'; but for me shellac is closer to my experience. I don't mind that, though. For me that is a very pleasant aroma. I've noted it in many BF products, and find a little bit of it this year's BB. Hope that helps.

We do not get the OF Sig in this part of CO, just the 86 proof.
fishnbowljoe
After a long week at work, a couple of pours of a ps FRSB is just what the doctor ordered. Cheers! Joe
Clueby
Having another pour of Yippee Ki-Yay. It has definitely improved after being open for a week or two. It was all vermouth when first opened. It also benefits from scotch rocks to bring the temp down a bit.
Richdel
First pour before dinner was 1792 FP. Wife and I commiserated about her being told she was losing her job today. I think the second pour will be Buffalo Trace. Enjoying that while watching the World Series. Let's go Indians.

flahute
Been on the road for work a ton this past week and more is on tap in the next two weeks. Early in the week up in BC, Canada, the pickings were slim but the hotel bar had KC so that was just fine with me. Home for a couple nights and took a detour through the rye side of the mashbill. Just got back home from Jackson Hole and the selection was better. A little KC at the restaurant bar before dinner and later that night a Booker's at the Million Dollar Cowboy Bar. (If you've never been there, it's a long space with bars lining both sides and the bar stools are fixed in place saddles. The kitsch is awesome. Back home for a couple days before the next round of travel. Had a WR on the plane home. Keeping it in the family with some OF 1897. Tasting much better than usual tonight. Not sure what's up with that.
