Really nice SBS, well done.  Not to quibble, but this was Evan Williams BiB not truly HH BiB, although EW of course is a HH product.

I agree with most everything that you wrote. I find the EW BiB does indeed punch above its weight and in this regard is probably the better value. But I still find the 101 to be the more interesting pour overall, presumably due to its extra spiciness. But that's just a personal taste preference.  I could live happily with either.  Cheers.

Correct EW BiB not HH though the 6yr is my preferred BIB of any I have. These things happen I was drinking after all LOL, good catch. I will see if I can edit.

1792 for me tonight.  1792 has quickly become a go to for me.  I am planning on picking up a liquor store PS bottle next week.  Cheers all.

I'd never had this one, so I picked up a PS bottle last week. It's the Small Batch, but being PS it is from a single barrel (and priced like the small batch). Not digging it... Nose is fantastic, but I'm getting nothing but a jumbled hot mess on the palate. Lots of bitter oak. I'm withholding judgement on the brand as a whole since this is a Single Barrel. The actual Small Batch may be entirely different than what I'm getting here.

A week on the road and one day home before heading out, so decided to start with some RHF before moving to ECBP.

Now that's my idea of a warm up bourbon ;)

Haven't been on in a while.  lately I've been enjoying some OWA (Party Source pick), WLW (can't remember what year) and EWSB 2000.

. . .  A little KC at the restaurant bar before dinner and later that night a Booker's at the Million Dollar Cowboy Bar. (If you've never been there, it's a long space with bars lining both sides and the bar stools are fixed in place saddles. The kitsch is awesome.

[Late comment - sheesh, where I been the last eight days?  Talk about a lost weekend.]

Yup.  The stools.  I only wish they had those safety straps like dude ranches had to tie us on the saddles when we were kids.

Tonight, Iam back to bourbon after spending a couple of weeks drinking ryes straight.  I did keep notes and put them someplace safe.  When I find them . . .

Back to OGD BIB after finishing about a 3/4 of an ounce of VOB BIB "6" earlier today.  The ryes were fine, but there is just something about bourbon that says, "You are home, son."

remove a "U" from after "I" - how'd THAT happen?

Having some FRSB PS OESO 12 yr 2mo, 54% ABV.  I decided to get another bottle but it was all gone when I hit the store this afternoon.  Darn it.

Blanton's right now.  I'm always struck by how elegantly silky a mouthfeel this whiskey has.  It just purrs and slinks over the palate in a perfect balance of controlled power and grace.  If Blanton's were an animal, it would be a panther on a nightly prowl.  Gorgeous stuff.

I had quite a few pours while watching the LSU game tonight. EC12y, SAOS SB 10y, OFBB 2016, and now some Bookers from '95 and a great fire.

Wow, Joe - I'm getting goosebumps up and down mah arms readin' this.  Blanton's is still my "go-to" bourbon as well.  But I had a little bit left in a bottle that I needed to finish before opening a "Loch & K(e)y" barrel pick Blanton's last night. JTaylor suggested a vatting of Blanton's & OGD114 (3:2) in another thread, so I tried it last night.  While it was very good (Blanton's flavors with more umphhh), the sum did did not exceed the parts.  JMHO.   :)

Thanks! It's a great bottle so far. Also got an 8 year on the go as well which is a little spicier.

Nothing really hit my palate well last night. I hopscotched around with CEHTSmB, Blade & Bow, M46 and old reliable KCSB. They were all off to me. Sucks to lose a Saturday to a bad palate.  Guess I'll need to make a better effort today!

Actually it was 2:1 Blanton' s to OGD 114, and while I enjoyed the novelty of the first tasting and what I found to be a pecan pie with a slightly burnt crust finish, subsequent pours have not excited me quite as much. I will agree that this vatting, while interesting, is not an improvement, only different. Makes me wonder what the SFTB Blanton' s tastes like and how amazing it would be if bottled at even 100 proof.

(Notwithstanding Joe's elegant and accurate appraisal) :)

Much like Joe and his description of Blanton's I find myself reaching for it more often than anything else.  It just hits every note every time.

Those are great products, but it's hard to find in Europe.

Enjoy!

Tonight, i'm enjoying Blanton's SFTB 2015.

Cheers!

OGD114 in the swing in the pergola. Gorgeous for a November afternoon in NW Ohio. Damn global warming!

FC103 6yr age stated - spicy and let's you know you've got something with some body to it right off the bat and finishes strong.  Not bad for <$20 and better than a lot that are >$50

Joe has this way of posting a review which results in a bunch of us rushing right out to the liquor store to purchase whatever it was he just reviewed.

A little basic BT to finish off the afternoon, then a short OGD BIB to start the evening.  We'll have steak later, so I'll make some Manhattans with a rye (haven't picked one out, yet) and Dolins sweet vermouth.

THEN, I'll have something while trying to figure out what the heck is happening in "Once Upon a Time" which my wife loves.
