Guest
Getting my Don Draper on @ the office. Found the WSR at a nearby ma and pa. First WSR for me after falling in love with OWA. I like this, can taste the family resemblance, but I like the OWA quite a bit more.
fishnbowljoe
I had a pour from a newly opened bottle of Weller 12 when I got home from work today. I'll be following that with a pour of Batch #3 Stagg Jr. In being redundant, again, check my post in the "What Bourbon Did You Pass Up Today?" for details. Cheers! Kpiz
Enjoying some OGD114 while I still can. This stuff hits me a little differently every time I drink it. Tonight it's tasting like a spicier, high-proof Jim Beam, which I suppose it is. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk OGD has a different mashbill (much higher rye) and a different yeast so it's not really a higher proof JB. That said, I read earlier in the week someone saying that they got peanuts from OGD (usually associated with Beam products) so maybe there's something to it. Kalessin
It's my 50th birthday today (as I post, technically yesterday November 29th). After dinner with my fabulous wife, I'm now listening to some music and contemplating times past and times to come. Some small pours of rare bourbons for the occasion: HHSS SB.com #1 FR Mariage 2009 FR SmBLE 2011 FR SmBLE 2012 FR SmBLE 2013 (125th Anniversary) WT 86.8 proof from the early 1980s, from the last bottle of my late grandfather's bourbon. He died in 1986, and I discovered the half-full bottle in 2006. Edited November 30, 2016 by Kalessin

I didn't really mean it in technical terms. But I do get quite a bit of Beam funk in this, which I hadn't noticed in past when I've had it. The other day it reminded me of the flinty Dickel notes, but tonight it tastes very Beamy. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I just thought it interesting that for the second time in a week someone got "typical Beam" from OGD when logic says you shouldn't. To make matters even more interesting, as I was finishing a bottle a week or so ago, I also got some of those flinty Dickel notes that you mention. Not on every pour, but about every other pour. First time for that and it surprised me.

I hadn't noted the significance until you said something (I guess I figured a little of the Beam DNA could end up in anything they make with the same equipment, but I don't know how much that actually makes sense), and now I agree that it's a little weird. Especially since others, including you, have noticed something similar. I'll post something over in the OGD thread about this. Hop
After a couple of nights off bourbon substituting Cabernet - I went back to it last night on a bottle of Old Charter 8yr from BT - from the resulting fill level it looks like I'll finish it off tonight

Madhatter
At the tapas bar tonight, had a pour of Booker's (Bluegill batch). Solid. No major nuances, but plenty of flavor. I must be immune to peanut because I never get it with Booker's (yet). Compared to all Booker's I've tasted, this batch was average, which nonetheless makes it good because it's Booker's. True 'Dat!!! Never had a pour of Booker's from any era, or any batch, that I didn't enjoy quite well. Some of the recent batches have been more variable than in distant past years; but the least of 'em was/is still damned fine Bourbon.... And one or two have been exemplary. That may change as the average age seems to be creeping downward; but until it does, I'm a FAN!!!

It was a good night. Nice, Charlie. Congrats. Tonight, after a short, pre-dinner cocktail made with Angel's Envy, I poured myself a store pick 4R BP OBSK with a small ice cube, melted. Yum. That may change as the average age seems to be creeping downward; but until it does, I'm a FAN!!! Yup. With OGD 114 on sale once in awhile earlier in the year, Booker's being on sale (well, $5 off) when each "new" release comes out, and JB BIB lately being available at $19 per 750ml, I'm awash in drinkable bourbon. As I just posted, tonight is 4R OBSK store pick @ barrel proof with a cube. Saving all those bargains for a rainy day. It IS winter, after all, pretty soon, and Booker's is over-represented in the bunker.
Old Dusty
Throwback Thursday.......all the way back to the FRSmB 2016 that I got during KBF thanks to a couple of great friends getting in line earlier than me at Cox's Creek. It's down to the last 1/4 of the bottle but still hitting all the marks.
