At $45 or so it seemed worth a try. So I presume in Canada it would be around $55-60 at a minimum? But $85 seems excessive even for Canada!

I think part of the problem with it is, as noted, unclear release information, increased expectations with the Stagg name, and the lower price and high praise for ECBP which had a slightly earlier release.

Seems more has rolled out in tiny waves into both KY and TN. Walked into a store south of Nashville, chatting with the staff and they explained they had a mystery case show up last week. They didn't bother with any fancy raffles, put it on the shelf and watched some very happy customers smile their way to the checkout.

They had no idea root cause of the late arrivals, but assumed the distributor held some back to push just before xmas rush.

Noted it back on the shelves today at $49.99. Supposedly just arrived.

On a side note the stores have been crowded the past few days. I like it when it is quite so I can chat up the staff and owners!

Funny thing is, i don't begrudge them for releasing more Stagg Jr...i just wish they'd educate their staff and distributors better. A few stores when asked answered "1 time thing", but clearly the press release noted occasional releases. Still not sure why they "surprise" stores with product as it seems a real inefficient way top move product.

Our distributor in NY told us we'd be able to purchase 6 bottles per month... Sounds good, except we haven't seen another bottle since the original release. Eventually they'll send us more, maybe?

Given that it is the same mashbill as regular BT and has many of the same characteristics, I have tried a few blends. I have tried a 2:1 blend (BT/STJ), which makes an essentially 105 proof BT, and a 1:1 blend, which makes a 112 proof BT. I prefer both blends significantly over BT or STJ alone. I found the BT added more complexity to the STJ while the STJ added enough of a boost to enhance the flavor of the BT. In fact, I think both blends are awesome. I liked the 1:1 blend the best. So, if you have always wanted an amped up BT and like the general GTS profile but found STJ to be one dimensional, you might want to give this blend a try.

Thanks for sharing. I have both available to me. I don't enjoy the BT by itself that much but enjoyed the Stagg Jr. So, this is something I'll definitely have to try:)

Alright mbroo, I vatted about half a bottle's worth last night--will let it rest a bit and then give it a try. Sort of 1:1, though I wasn't being exact. I only have single barrel BT around, so this should be a nice mingling. I have enjoyed my EC12 single barrel and ECBP vattings.

Maybe it's just because I like spicy food, but I really enjoy Stagg Jr. It obviously does not compare favorably to GTS, and one might even argue that the vattings that went into Col E.H. Taylor Barrel Proof were better spent on this endeavor, but it has been an enjoyable bourbon for me. Full disclosure: I paid $45 each for the bottles I picked up. I have seen it retail as high as $70 where I live. For that price, I would not be as forgiving. Hope you guys are able to procure what you want of this. If anyone in Maryland needs help getting ahold of some, I will be sure to keep an eye out for you if you ask.

Our store finally got our resupply of Stagg Jr. Distributor sent 1 case (6 bottles) off backorder plus a second case we ordered. Cases list 9/2013 bottling date, so guess BT is just holding back and releasing original dump in waves.

It was my first time with Stagg Jr. and I thought the profile was a lot closer to GTS than I had let the responses on the forum lead me to believe.

I usually bbq once every year in January. Something to break up the monotony of winter for my wife, kids and family friends. However, I usually will only do it when we get lucky with a 30 degree day. The high was barely over 20 degrees yesterday. It was also a tremendous pain in the ass walking back and forth to my smoker through snow that is a foot high. I slept until 1:30PM today because I was exhausted from all the hard work cooking. The hangover may have had something to do with it as well.

Picked this up for under $40. It's my "end of a rough day" bourbon. 2 rocks in a maker's rocks glass. I'm a fan. I've seen it go for $79 at a liquor store west of me. Easy pass at that price. But under $40 and I'd buy again.
