dcbt
Picked up my first bottle of Stagg Jr today (ordered from PA LCB). Looks like it might be a new batch? Proof is 128.7So far, I've only had it over an ice cube and am surprised at how easy it is to drink. Of course, that usually implies that the flavor profile lacks complexity, which I find to be true in this case. Will have to revisit this one neat. TunnelTiger
I'm thinking i've avoided this one because best as I can remember it's $79 and that I believe is considerably more than you ciyt boys pay.For an item that get's as many negative reviews as positive I tend to avoid. dSculptor
I find drinking Stagg Jr. much better after drinking another high proofer. Right now I start with CEHT BP and then move to Stagg Jr. For whatever reason, that seems to be a winning combination, although it's usually the last combination for the night. :falling:

Around here it is $50 typically - and for me, was a "try before you buy".

There are three sitting on the shelf if anybody wants to know where they are at.
bourbonfoot
Some batch 2 notes... Whereas the first Stagg batch I got was overwhelming and harsh, this one has dialed it back a bit. It's decidedly a BT product, which I think the proof did some work hiding the first go round IMO. I think the big difference here is age. You can really tell at the back end. I'm assuming the 12 years on the ECBP helps do a better job of smoothing out the burn. Hopefully this is something BT can get right in the future. Even still, at barrel proof this is something I'd pay $50 for semi-regularly. On another note, I have a private selection BT that is really (read REALLY) lacking in the spice dept. I'm thinking a vatting with this will work out quite nicely.
jmj_203
There is no batch # on the bottle, so if there are different batches, they'd have to be differentiated by proof. I believe that all bottles released so far have been 134.4 proof (67.2 abv) though, which indicates that there was only one batch of barrels dumped and bottled, and they've released it in a few different waves. Therefore, the bottle you picked up could have been from the most current release or one of the prior releases, since there's no way to distinguish them, but they should all be identical product anyhow.I’m not sure if BT plans to keep the proof consistent at 134.4, similar to what WT does with RB, but if they do then it'll be impossible to differentiate between batches/releases.They have done more than 1 batch I thought. I have 4 bottles I just got in that are 128.7 proof. I can get more, anybody gets desperate just send me a pm. Few mouseclicks and 49.99 and its at my store in 3 to 5 days. Makes up for us getting the shaft in pennsylvania with ECBP. So I stocked up. Edited May 2, 2014 by jmj_203

Let us know what you think when you crack one of those open.
KyleCBreese
Stagg Jr seems to have hit NJ last week. I went to 3 stores on Friday and they all got it in that week.
Jiggity
I found some Stagg Jr. at a local BevMo a few weeks ago. It was 134.4 proof bottle (which is the same as the bottles I got a few months back). I haven't seen the 128 proof in the stores here.
holdtheice
Noticed Stagg Jr. on the shelf at a local store I drop into pretty regularly. I was surprised this got a release down here and was very interested until I saw the price. $225. :skep: Pass.
amg
I guess that's why it's still on the shelf. That's some serious gouging.

holdtheice
Clearly someone one who knows enough to be dangerous. "That Stagg stuff fetches a big internet price lets mark ours up to match" just like a store I was in that had Baby Saz on the top shelf behind the counter at $150.That's what I wondered at first but the owners of that store have always been ethical businessmen throughout the time I've shopped at their store. Bear in mind I'm in Australia, so out of interest I just searched on a couple of online stores here and their prices were even worse; $265 and $299 . I think it must be an issue of distributor greed. The BTAC releases are criminally priced down here ($300-$400 per bottle is the norm) so it's probably just an attempt by the distributor to cash in on the Stagg name. I think Buffalo Trace really need to consider changes to their distribution network if this is the cause because this sort of flagrant price gouging can only damage their own reputation in the long run. The Black Tot
I had a shot at some Stagg Sr in Chicago last week. What I will say is that after Stagg Jr, Stagg Sr is a class apart. Stagg Jr is IMHO a bad idea, and it hurts the brand. It's all vicious, no delicious. Stagg Sr is the opposite. May it go away quietly, if it is capable of anything, quietly.tbt

dcbt
I plop a single 1oz ice cube into a 3oz pour. If it fully diluted that would knock the proof down to about 100 but it never lasts that long because it becomes pretty delicious when the fire is tamed. Jorgemu1
I know a store that just go in the second batch. I believe the second batch is at a slightly lower proof than the original batch. Does anybody know how the two compare? I believe there was a majority consensus that the first batch of ECBP was better than the second. Either way, consider me a fan of Stagg Jr.

Will not be buying any more of the new release, but if I see anymore of the first release I'll be picking them up.
