Golzee
Had some JBW tonight from a bottle a friend found in his grandparents bar. Based on what we could decipher, it was from around 1974. It was a solid pour, but, what intrigued me more was that it was in a gallon bottle. Why don't they sell bourbon in gallon bottles anymore? Also into the OF Single Barrel I was drinking the past two nights. This is really an exceptional barrel. I have seen OF single barrel for around $40 near me. Is a regular off the shelf bottle worth double OF Sig in your opinion? I really enjoy OF, but, I have been apprehensive about the single barrel. I don't want to buy a blend of the 86 proof and 100 proof in a fancy bottle.

I enjoyed the decades but not for the price point. Much better offering than MK IMHO. Also had WT Donut, CGF and an old 93 RB. Not to mention various other malts and things I won't go into because I'm tired and crashing. Always a good time to visit and share a few pours. Thanks for hosting Eric. WoW! 48 years! How did that one taste?

(To that end, I've never seen an off the shelf bottle like how KCSB can be either standard issue or a store selection.) I've only seen store selects. My local TW had one last year and while good, I wasn't prompted to buy another. The barrel I've been drinking from is one selected by a group I'm in. This one is absolutely worth it. If you are seeing a store select, try it first if you can.

El Vino
Maker's Mark Private Select from Bayway. 110 proof. Pat, the whiskey manager ay Bayway, thinks the juice is 7-8 years old. A big fan of Maker's Cask Strength and this kicks the depth and richness of flavor up a notch or two. Vanilla and mocha really come through on the nose. On the palate: definitely a wheater, but the staves add complexity where again the mocha and spice influence is noticeable. Not especially long but pleasant finish. At $70, I would not call it a bargain, but fair for the uniqueness of the expression. Need one more at least for the bunker. Thanks to the SBer that called my attention to this! For those observant of the wine, my son turns 21 on April 1 and Dunn is my favorite wine and 1996 is his birth year. Steaks, cigars and maybe some Pappy to celebrate! Happy Sunday to all. My guess is at this point, with the earlier maturing '96 vintage, the Howell will be really great. I have a couple '95's I'm still waiting on. RacePrecision: I have a vertical of Dunns from 1986 to 2003 (when I realized I had more wine than I could drink.) They age beautifully! The 1994 HM may be the best California Cab I have ever had. Will do my best to keep some notes on the wine, but it is a 21st birthday party...

CardsandBourbon
Friend of mine from Louisville was down today and after lunch he, my son and I made a trip around E'town checking out what was available. I didn't purchase anything but he picked up a bottle of CEHT Small Batch, CEHT Rye, 2 bottles of VOB BIB 6, a bottle of Booker's 2016 - 05 and 2 bottles of WSR. My son picked up a bottle of ER Single Barrel Store Selection and a bottle of Rowan's Creek. When we got back to the house we shared a pour of KC Single Barrel Store Selection from Packages & More (Barrel #3094) which I had been raving about recently. He was thoroughly impressed as I had been. Also had some of my son's Rowan's Creek. My first taste of it. Really liked it. Different with a really dry finish.
