I remember the days when I could go in the day after the releases were announced knowing that I had a bottle or two waiting on me at my favorite retailer.  The store manager knew what I liked and I was certain to get a FRSmB LE and a couple of BTACs.  I was never the big spender but he knew I wasn't a flipper and that I would always offer a taste before leaving the store.  He always got his own bottles but it said a lot that I would pop them in the back of the store with him.  I also offered tastes to any other employees who wanted one.  Those days are long gone.

The last BTAC I bought was a few years back.  I won't mention the store but the chain had long gone to a lottery.  I could never make the lottery due to work so I asked one of the owners what options I would have since I couldn't make the lottery.  He offered me a WLW at MSRP which I gladly accepted.  I still give him my business.  Even this was a few years back, I am not sure he is able to make such a generous offer now.

I occasionally go to a lottery but my expectations are always low.

My 2019 lottery acquisitions - rather modest from last year's Pappy spree I hope.  I'd rather be lucky than good (anytime).  Still working on attainment of true bourbon zen, tho'.  Oooommmmm!   ?

375ml of Westland was part of the gift pack, not a lottery item (heh, heh).  Honest!!!   ?

Just got the email from the ABC that I wasn't one of the 6 winners of the PVW Collection.  With 33,035 entries I can't imagine why I wasn't one of the winners.  ?

Nice. Those were all in the lottery I attended yesterday...but only one of each. My lottery win was a Stagg Jr.  Yes, it's a lottery item here.

Clueby we’ll have to connect at one of these next time. I was fortunately the third number drawn at that lottery (got the lot B ) I was toward the back so I couldn’t see who took most of the bottles.

For those interested the order was WLW, Old Blowhard, Lot B, ORVW, GTS

Holy crap - I just got word that I won a local store lottery for a GTS!

I really thought nothing was gonna happen for me this year.

This has made my week.

Pics will have to wait until I get back to land.

So my local mini-chain is running their big lottery.  They do smaller ones pretty much every month but this is by far their biggest with the largest amount of allocated bottles, along with some that don't quite seem to be in that tier.

Customers earn entries based on their spending throughout the year.  Those selected provide a prioritized list and receive their top available selection in a random draw.   All done via email so no need to cram into mob scene at a store or wait outside in a huge line.  Seems to be the fairest and least labor-intensive method for distributing high-demand items.

I received the Four Roses Limited Edition Small Batch, which was #4 on my list.  Ranking was tough due to limited exposure to many of these but I am happy with the outcome.  Could have been a little better but also could have been a lot worse.

I never would have guessed that WSR would become a lottery pick.

The FRLESmB is great this year so not really a compromise in my opinion. Outside of the obvious cache that comes with face pappy (and I do really like the 15) I think the 4R may be the best of the bunch this year if tasted blind.

Great to hear!  Trying to cobble together a ranked list of bottles I've never seen, much less tasted, is somewhat of a fool's errand but I am glad to hear I managed to do that well.

I didn't include any of the Van Winkles on my list.  I'm not a flipper so for myself I didn't feel that the price/value ratio was there, at least from what I read.  I had WLW, GTS and ER17 slotted ahead of the Four Roses.

Yeah, there are several that seem a little misplaced.

Maybe it's a way to get as many people as possible a "lottery pick" so that the recipient can feel good about their purchases throughout the year?

GTS is may all time favorite and the one I always go for. I also love WLW thought it doesn't make me do handstands like it does for others. Having now tried all of this years GTS, ER17, and 4RLE, I can tell you that this year the 4RLE is the best of that bunch. 4RLE can be up and down but this year they really nailed it. GTS is still good, don't get me wrong, and the ER17 is the first year out of many (I did not try last year's) that I think is really good. The 4RLE is just that good this year to my palate.

LOL - I appreciate that but that's not what I meant. I was referring to distribution of the 4R if n00b didn't like it!

Ha!

Well pack that ER17 in your bag when you come.

It'll be a heck of a party.
