lcpfratn
Well, I can’t say that it wasn’t deserving of this accolade, but I’m afraid this will now have a significant price increase and become allocated just like Henry McKenna BIB. The shortage has already begun!

The shortage has already begun! I wouldn't jump to conclusions. However-- the award-winning liquid was a specific vintage-based release so impossible to duplicate. If you haven't tried the Dewar's Double Double that came in second, it's a treat.

Some local stores have already sold out and the local wholesale distributor is currently out of stock. I haven’t tried the Dewar’s Double Double...I’ll have to see if I can find some. Fingers crossed rare breed rye isn't like my Minnick, Murray, or Whiskey advocate. Of course that's assuming I'll love it as much as I anticipate.
BottledInBond
I haven’t tried this Dickel release so I won’t claim to have an informed opinion on it. But I’ll say that I think their Top 20 lists generally suck and take them with a grain of salt. I don’t what lists/awards truly will move the needle on availability of a given product. Sort of hard to say since the producers don’t publicly report sales volumes by label or anything like that.

GaryT
I liked the Dickel BIB, although I'd take the Glenmo 14yr QR over it every day of the week and twice on Sunday. Hadn't tried the Dewars, but I'm squarely in the camp of those giving thanks for the absence of Turkey. I'm not sure why Old Forester Rye didn't make their cut (I'd take that over several of what they included; frankly the HH 7yr just irritates me - although I suppose I'm becoming a grumpy old bastard)
TwoFingers
Don't think I have ever seen it around here, so a shortage is in the eye of the beholder. There is lots of other things to enjoy.
Soberiquet
I've been wanting to try this since the release was first announced, but I have never seen one here. I guess I never will.

Kane
Still haven't seen the Dickel, neither the FR SmB. Wtf is wrong with Boston... The real news here is that a Woodford special made any list. Also, I call BS on the Kaiyou Mizunara.

That, combined with the 10% case discount, combined with me wanting to be sure I'm out ahead of any dumb award, means that I currently have two cases sitting in my basement.
Kepler
I have some of the BIB on hand, and while it is very good for the money, I don't see how it's number 1 on their list. Reminds me of the time McKenna won that spirits award. Very good but not great.
Jazz June
It should be noted that this list factors in price and availability, so they aren't saying those 20 are the best of the best. Also, I think it's only stuff they reviewed in the last year, which is primarily (all?) new releases, as opposed to continuous releases started in the past. While these parameters make some sense, they also always lead to a list that seems more like marketing hype than a real top 20 list. Especially considering no one pays attention to the details of anything anymore. The bottles will just end up saying "WA best of 2019" or something. MadGoodPour
Dickel BiB is good shit, my bottle is gone save for a 2oz mini. Did not expect to like it as much as I did.
kcgumbohead
Was in the store to pick up something else and just for fun, I traveled the aisles and noticed the space for Glenmo 14 QR had already been cleared, the rush is ON!!.

Eddie told me a few weeks ago that most barrels in RR10 were at least 11 yrs... one spot where Campari/WT miss the boat (IMO) is annual releases. As much as I enjoy Masters Keep, those are one offs. 11 yr Russell’s Reserve small batch at barrel proof, released once a year would be a damn winner in my book.

Who else has a 13 year old bottled in bond product with a MSRP of $35 that’s pretty damn good whiskey...I’ll give you a few minutes....hmmm...crickets. It got number one on the list not because it was the best whiskey on the list, but because it was the best whiskey at such an incredible value. Now obviously if your not a fan of Dickel, you’re probably not going to like it, but I still think it was an excellent choice for number 1 on the list. Unfortunately, it will probably mean that it’s price will be going up, and it will become the latest allocated whiskey

I didn't realize their award to be cost dependent at all, but if that's the case then I would have to recalibrate my whole list. In that case OF BiB Rye is hands down my number one. Btw I am actually a fan of Dickel products so no built in issues from me.
