lcpfratn
I'm not sure you are actually disagreeing with me. I didn't realize their award to be cost dependent at all, but if that's the case then I would have to recalibrate my whole list. In that case OF BiB Rye is hands down my number one. Btw I am actually a fan of Dickel products so no built in issues from me.Here’s the methodology that Whisky Advocate uses for their annual top 20 list:“Each year, Whisky Advocate Buying Guide reviewers collectively sample hundreds of whiskies. These include rare and extremely limited releases, as well as new and emerging labels that will find their way to shelves across the nation. To determine our Top 20, we begin by looking only at whiskies that rated "outstanding" (90 points or higher on Whisky Advocate's 100-point scale). However, the Top 20 is not simply a collection of our highest-rated whiskies, because many of those are so limited they would be impossible for most readers to locate or purchase. Therefore, in addition to quality (based on score), our selection also prioritizes value (based on price) and availability. An important step in gauging the true merit of these whiskies is blind tasting review by a panel of international reviewers. The review panel tasted the eligible whiskies in a series of blind tasting flights to arrive at the final list. The panel did not know the identity of the whiskies being tasted—not their producer, country of origin, age, nor price. The average rating from the blind tasting panel supersedes the original Buying Guide rating. The individual reviewer rating will remain noted in the Buying Guide for the record. The final decision for placement considers average score, price, and availability. Our Top 20 is a selection of whiskies worthy of your attention. The list includes great values that might otherwise be overlooked, whiskies that are best in class for their style, and highly accomplished bottles you should be looking for. Most importantly, each of these whiskies generates excitement and marks a highlight across a year of tasting.”

So cynical...I like it.
Kane
My default stance is to be skeptical rather than cynical... but you know, instead of three paragraphs of BS they could've given us one line with proper metrics and weighted averages or something. BourbonGuy
My local has it at just under $50. May by one bottle to try it.
musekatcher
They have a few bottles at the distillery store. I found a dusty (literally, not figuratively) last week for under $40. I'm a Dickel fan, on my 4th barrel buy, so I was glad to find it as a collectible. PS - our barrels are routinely over 11 years old, and bottled at 103 proof. Our last one was 13 years and 11 months old! I'd expect the BIB to be very similar. Edited December 25, 2019 by musekatcher
Paddy
Like many have noted, I too find this to be a very good drinking whiskey. I'm not saying whiskey of the year level, but it's certainly a richly hearty, well aged pour that I have no problem recommending to others. My experience with Dickel is that you never want to follow with it. The house note is too pronounced IMO for one to fully appreciate it that way. I always use it as an opener, or just as the solo pour(s) for the evening, as I find it good enough to almost always reach for again, if approached in that manner.
