flahute
My wife found a bottle of the Bittermilk Bourbon Barrel Aged Old Fashioned cocktail mix I had forgotten about. I think I bought right before we went on the keto diet a while back so when we relaxed the rules I forgot I had it. So we gave it a try last night. 4 parts bourbon or rye. 1 part Bittermilk. Used EW BIB and wow this is good. Liked it so much we decided to have a second one and for that I used a Wilderness Trail rye barrel pick that's 107 proof. We liked that one even better. The spice flavors in this are perfect for the holidays.
0895
I recently made a batch of barrel aged manhattan with some Very Old Barton 90p I had sitting around. Enjoying some tonight with a large ice sphere and 2 luxardo cherries. Yum!

I think I used EW 1783 in about the same proportions. I was pretty impressed and figured I would pick up a few to have on hand, especially when I'm traveling.

smokinjoe
Sipping on a Boulevardier while the stone ground grits simmer for 20 minutes. Bacon and fried eggs on deck. No doubt, a second Boulevardier is coming…
beasled
I've been experimenting with non-bourbon old fashioneds of late. In particular ones using a combo of rum/mezcal and some using scotch. This is a Glen Scotia 15 old fashioned, and is terrific. Simple syrup, angostura, orange bitters, 50ml of Glen Scotia 15, orange twist. The scotch is American Oak aged, lightly peated for a bit of smoke in there too. Very tasty. Cheers!

For dinner we went French but my wife forgot her vaccine card. So the restaurant set us up outside on the sidewalk w space heaters. Xmas Eve dinner on Ventura Blvd, lol.
flahute
New one tonight. The Red Carpet. 1 1/2 ounce vodka 1 ounce Campari 1 ounce pomegranate liquor 1/2 ounce simple syrup (maple syrup substitute also acceptable which is what I did). Place all in a shaker with ice, serve in a chilled martini glass with lemon slice. Amazing.
beasled
I saw THIS article a while back and finally got round to trying it, albeit with Sotol instead of Mezcal (not feeling the Flor so into the mix it went). I tried the Ancho on it's own the other night, it's like ginger ale was a spirit, top stuff. As for this cocktail, it's certainly clever, a drying and spicy end to an evening.

When in NYC I try to hit Bleecker Street for some pizza and then stroll over to the Up and Up. Something about wading through the drug offers on the street and walking downstairs into a cocktail bar makes me a feel alive.
Kjbarth
NYE starts off with a Boulevardier, 2/3oz each of WT101, Campari, sweet vermouth. Happy New Years everyone! Edited December 31, 2021 by Kjbarth
Kjbarth
Next NEW cocktail for NYE (for me anyway), an Old Pepper, recipe from Bakers 1939 “The Gentleman’s Companion: Being an Exotic Drinking Book Or, Around the World with Jigger, Beaker, and Flask”. Definitely not sweet, has hot sauce, Tabasco, and Worcestershire sauce. Bourbon and rye.

scratchline
It's worth getting the liqueurs to make this. Almost Famous: 1 oz mezcal 1 oz lime juice 1 oz Ambrosia 1 oz Finochietto Shake. Strain on rocks. Great summer drink!
