A very nice whiskey for the money.

Still disappointing they didn't call the peated version Monkey Smoulder.

I'm enjoying some Edradour.

  • 3 weeks later...

Playoff football.

Cold night.

Warm fire.

All the ingredients for an Islay tour tonight.

It started with Laphroaig 10 year, and moved onto this.

Not sure what's on deck.

Also killed off a Springbank 15 tonight. Doubt I'll see this again anytime soon, secondary on Springbank is nuts and is propelling it into a price range that doesn't equal the value of the contents. So long!

I can find the 18 nearby for about $280. Any opinions on how it compares?

The 18s I've had in the past tend to be a bit more mellow than the 15s I've had. Quality, easy sipping stuff but with enough character to make it complex.

280 is a lot but then I'm in the UK, so that's about double what I last paid for it.

However, I don't think you'd be disappointed and demand is always heading north along with prices so if it's something you wanted to try it ain't gonna either cheaper or easier than today.

Maybe try a pour in a bar somewhere first if possible?

Really loving this Highland Park Cask Strength release.  For some reason the HP12 hasn’t really done it for me, but the HPCS releases and 18 yr have really impressed me.

:D

I saw it mentioned on something not so long ago and it stuck with me, for some reason. It's not something us Brits use a lot, I swear. Pip pip!

If you can track down the K&L Wine Merchants single cask Highland Park 12yo #3294 (2005/2018) @ 64.5% it would be well worth the effort.

Thanks for the heads up.  Sadly, K&L doesn't have any of their HP casks for sale right now.  I'll be on the lookout! I've liked the K&L casks so far, I currently have a Cask Strength Glendronach for pre-arrival.  I'll definitely be on the lookout if they get a cask of HP12 in future!

First bottle of Laphroaig’s Cairdeas bottling. Haven’t had much experience of peated whisky finished in Sherry cask.   I loved this especially at Cask Stength. Flavor was pretty intense and had a great finish. A lot going on in a good way in my opinion.

Love the color of that dram. I have a bottle of this stashed in the bunker. I might need to open it today.

Reunited with my favorite SkyClub bartender after two long years— what a nice day and a quadruple Laphroaig 10 to boot. Hope I don’t get kicked off the flight.

Whoa! This should turn into a very mellow flight for you!

Luckily the SkyClub attendant cleared my half-finished glass when I was in the bathroom. Normally I would be quite pissed off, but it really made for a safer evening.

Postbrandial or postprandial? For a moment I thought my dyslexia was kicking in...

Not familiar with the first one. Very familiar with the second!
