Ha!  One thing about this whiskey hobby is that there is no shortage of rabbit holes to dive down!  Heck, there’s  even a “Rabbit Hole” distillery!  🤣

My cooler is just like the guys in the video, but is an igloo brand and called a “cool 8”.  Designed to contain 8 cans of beer/coke.  Inside dimensions are 9.75” side to side X 6.5” front to back X 7.5” deep.

Fill to 1” from the top.  24 hours in the freezer is just right to get a slab of ice ~2” thick at the top (the rest of the contents remain as unfrozen water.).

The knife type is important.  A bread knife is ideal.  Serrated edges for scoring, long blade to score fully across, and flat blade profile for even depth cuts.  I tried a slightly curved knife on first try, but it’s curve caused uneven pressure on the slab when tapping it with hammer this causing uneven/clean cuts when it breaks through.  Ice still looked good and clear, but cubes look better…(BTW, I didn’t want to mess up our good bread knife, so bought one at Bed Bath & Beyond for $6.  Works like a charm.)

Perfect!

I have a couple of those bread knives.

Thanks for providing the specifics.

Can't wait!

Very nice pour especially for a Wednesday.  I'd join you with a pour of this, but my palate is already going ahead with this Redbreast Irish whiskey.  Enjoy!

Redbreast is good stuff.

Ive come to realize over time that if you’re in the mood for something, don’t deny it.  Drink whatever you want when you want.  Life’s to short to “save” this stuff for imaginary special occasions that may or may not ever happen.

This bottle called my name as soon as I glanced towards the shelf.

Great advice right there.

BTW, 4R Al Young is one of my favorite pours ever.  I totally agree with your logic... i.e.. when Mr. Al Young is calling you, there's only one thing to do and that is to answer that call!  🥃

I went ahead and opened the Weller 12 I bought today. It’s been a while, so I decided to have a couple of pours. I do believe I made the right decision. 😋

Devil's or Distiller's?  It DOES make a difference (to me at least!).  🤪

Wow, is it really Thursday already?  Wild Turkey 101 on a cube should fortify me for what Friday may throw at me.  😁

Distiller’s Cut, I bunkered about 2 cases a few years ago.  I still have one source in town that has been undiscovered.

It makes a difference to me also!

That's a helluva nice afternoon right there.

I saw Ryan Bingham back in 2017. He puts on a good show.

Starting the weekend with a Woodford, which has been hitting my sweet spot for some time.  I recently finished the Derby bottle I bought a couple months ago, and since it’s so pretty, I just bought a family sized am refilling it from there.  😁

After cracking open a 15 year Dickel at 40% (see my post the what did you open thread for more details) that seems to suck, I had to right the ship with some WTRB.  Now I'm sipping some Port Charlotte 10 year.

Challenge for you Turkey heads out there. At a local bar Thur evening me and a buddy were enjoying a couple of pours of WT101 and Russell's 10, both on ice. We asked the bar tender to pour a couple of neat tasters. We went back to our conversation and he put them on the bar blind to us. I was SO SHOCKED to taste the difference. The 10 was so big in taste and punch. The 101 was much smoother? WHAT? Of course I was wrong on my guess of which was which. Don't judge a bottle by what you think. :)

A couple of years ago I bought a case of RR10 because I worried it would become the new tater bait like HMcK did a couple of years ago. I'm going to put another couple of boxes in the garage. This has to be the #1 value bourbon in the land.

We hear that the latest RR10 has changed profile and is less influenced by oak. Probably the diminished oakiness allows the other bolder notes to shine through.

I haven't tried the latest RR10 but I've gone through enough earlier RR10 90 proof bottles to know that I strongly prefer WT101 over RR10.  I might give the newer version a try eventually but honestly I don't feel the need because I have a bunker full of WT101 and RR Single Barrel bottles, which is superior in every way to the 90 proof version.
