So I'm near the bottom of a bottle of BT. It is a barrel pick I did with my old local. I'm looking at the glass and I see...........barrel char? Yes, barrel char flakes floating at the bottom of the glass.

I'm used to this with barrel proofers - GTS being the prime example. But never in a 90 proofer. Have any of you ever seen this?

Was it NCF?

I heard they did that on some picks

Out at a nice steak dinner with some friends last night.  The food was really good but the bar menu left a lot to be desired and they were price proud of their offerings.  I settled for a FRSB and that was just fine. 😋

Opened this last night and it was better than I expected.  I had pretty low expectations since it's only 80 proof.  It reminded me of Basil Hayden's; not the flavor profile but the weight and mouthfeel.  It's pretty light but nicely balanced with decent flavors.  Overall, I'm happy considering I only paid, I think, $9 for the bottle.  I may try it out of the freezer when I can make some room in there.

Beautiful day. Went out to clean the pool with a more than healthy pour of Jack Daniel 128.7 proof BP and a big cube. I think I finished.

Starting this weekend a few minutes early with a pour of Chattanooga Cask bourbon.    This is my 4th bottle total of their bourbon and rye whiskies, and these guys have my respect.  In my book, they have officially joined New Riff as being on par with the Legacy Distilleries.

Next up: A gift from a colleague. Hadn't really heard of it. Liked it. Quite a bit, actually.

That's a nice perk on a great bourbon.  I would love to see more NCF bottles among the standard fare.

Blood Oath was the theme last night at the bourbon club. I liked #6 the best. Finished in cognac barrels. All were good though.

I also brought a bottle of Jim Beam from the distiller, just to break it up a little bit. The Beam was the favorite of the night….

I agree. I love both. I would add Woodinville as well.

I have had Chattanooga 111, 91, and rye. They are like dessert in a bottle. The pour in your glass tonight is my favorite.

I was looking through the bunker for something in the 110 proof range, and found this one.

I had forgotten how good it is

Ok y'all just made it easy to decide what to pour tonight.  I fairly recently picked up this single barrel of their wheated mashbill B005.   First impression is that it's a bit too hot to drink neat and needs water or an ice cube.  It's got a very unique combination of traditional wheater flavors combined with a prickly spiciness.  Maybe it's my palate tonight but this is tasting like the spiciest wheated bourbon I've ever tasted.

But bursting with flavor!

I just opened a 1L bottle of JW Dant to start the weekend.

I also happened to pick up a 1L bottle OF of Rye the same visit to the store.  I got deals on both.  Volume price calculated cheaper than the 750ml, plus two of my favorite pours.  🥃😉👍

what vintage BP?

It was a B522. A fine whiskey, to be certain.
The newer ECBP generally don’t measure up to the older pirate bottles however, imho.

Cheers

As it should be.  I prefer 1 L sized bottles over 750 (or 700 now in some cases 😠) whenever the price per volume is where it should be.  It still amazes me that so many brands offer the 1 L at a higher ppv than the 750.

I agree, 1L is my favorite size (most similar to old one quart).  Sometimes price on liter bottles is inexplicably out of whack, then I pass.

Hell with 700ml.

I've noticed that some Scotch brands have already totally overhauled their lineup to go from 750 to 700 here in the USA.  I assume bourbon will follow in this shrinkflation deception very soon.  Look for Brown-Forman brands to lead the way as usual.

There's a term for this, it's called chiseling.  It refers to a practice done in the past.  A dishonest merchant would take a standard size weight and remove a small amount from the bottom.

Saw WTRB at a good price during a Costco run today.  Enjoying it now, as thunderstorms roll through Dixie.  I so love Rare Breed.  🥰
