I asked for a diet coke.  They said "We have pepsi products."  I said, "Good thing since you have shit for a bourbon selection."

I saw a meme the other day:

"I'd like a Diet Coke."

"Is Diet Pepsi OK?"

"Is Monopoly money OK?"

The orange line will take you from midway to the south loop. It's about a 5 minute walk to the store from the Roosevelt station.

Thanks.  Dunno if I'll get stuck at Midway for 4 hours again but I'll keep that in mind.  We ended up walking down to Giordano's at Cicero & 63rd for a late lunch.

My wife is looking at a likely retirement at the end of the year.  We spent the weekend talking about where we go/land in 2025.  One of the areas I looked at was my bunker.  As it stands, I believe, I may be at zen.

If we decide to move, the bottles may become a real concern/issue.

I can be of assistance. I can lighten your load. And judging by your track record here you have quite the bunker.

(not that I think it’s polite to talk about another man’s bunker)

Funny you should say this as I moved 3 times in the last 3 years due to a job change, issues with one of the houses, the pandemic and just needing to "clear the slate".  I don't know how many bottles you have but I was probably somewhere around 150 when all this happened, and the quantity was a real issue.  Moving them, storing them for a bit and then moving them again got old and had me nervous (of damaging them) every time.  That's why I'm working to cull the herd now. I don't want to deal with that again.

I guess it comes down to how many bottles you have to move, how far, and what kind of room there is available at the end destination.

I've always figured for me to move, the new place would have to have more room.  🤣  Right now, my bunker is a walk in closet.  The open or on deck bottles are in a cabinet.

We have about 3800 sq. ft. on 3 acres.  There are 4 garages and a 16x16 shed.  Also a 46’ pool.

We are talking about some serious downsizing (2200- 2500) .5 acre and 2 car garage.   That means a lot stays with the house or goes to auction.

Over the years, I have filled a bar on each floor, several wine racks/refrigerators, a beer fridge in the garage and probably 400 bottles bunkered (quesstimate)   I may have a problem.
I also have several large collections (NA points/celts (all found by me hiking/hunting),  civil war bullets/collectibles (also hiking/hunting),  weapons, guitars and a few that won’t be discussed here.  OK, I see it now, I definitely have a problem!
Not that I can’t live without any of it.  A lot will go to my sons.  I keep telling my wife to throw one heck of a wake when I go.  She wants to deal with it now and not leave it to her.  Not being morose, my grandfather used to say “God doesn’t want you and the Devil doesn’t need the competition”.  If that is the case, I have awhile to go.

It is just weird to be at this point in our lives.  I am thankful, we are trying to decide where (leaning to the western NC) we want to live.  Right now we are just talking.  The rest will sort itself out.

So I’m guessing you probably don’t want 100,000-200,000 baseball cards? 🤷🏻

Today I passed on absolutely everything in the store 🙂.  I went in to a local shop specifically to look for the new KC10 rye and it was not on the shelf nor were any bottles hiding behind the counter.  I did not get distracted by the other beautiful, shiny objects in the store... no (unplanned) purchases (today) 😄.

I have done this.  Actually, Friday night I did this.  Went into a local liquor store and walked out with absolutely nothing.  It always feels weird to me, like somebody's watching me to make sure I'm not trying to case the joint or lift a quick 375 ml when nobody is looking.  In the past, I felt so uneasy with it that I would buy a six pack of domestic beer that ended up living in my garage fridge for a year, or a couple bottles of tonic water.

It's kind of nice to have a plan and stick to it.  Now you have me thinking about KC 10 rye, though.  I'm pretty sure there's room for another rye somewhere in the house.  If I could just shuffle some of those bottles of tonic water to the garage...

I find it always helps to have something in the back of your mind to ask for that you know they don't have.

Then you can just casually play dumb and say "Do you all have any __________? "

Much easier to walk out then, saying "well, thanks anyway".

My go to used to be Very old Barton, before it became more widely distributed outside of KY.

Or some obscure craft beer from another state works too.

I’ve never done that before. ⚡🤯

I usually buy something like an iced tea just so I can go up to the counter and get a good look around and talk to the clerk a bit.

I have only been here on SB.com for a little under 3 years, but I swear there was a conversation sometime after December of 2021 that mentioned Fleischman 's Rye.  Searching the search function dredged up the latest talk of this legendary dram to have been in 2019.

At any rate, I found some very close to me.  There is a liquor store in the city of Waukesha (for those of you who know Wisconsin) about 12 miles from me that carries it.  80 proof NDP distilled in Kentucky, neck label says it was aged for 36 months.  At this price, I am intrigued, but it's not likely to jump off that bottom shelf any time soon.  Maybe when I'm in the area again.

Everything else here was a pass, too.  The 8 year 2 month old ECBP at $80 was a firm no thank you.

Never mind.  I just searched again and found the posts about Fleischmann's Rye.  Apparently, spelling matters.

I believe fishnbowljoe is the resident expert on Fleischmann's Rye.

What I recall is this.  It's made by Barton, and only sold in part of WI.  For a value pour, it seems to get good reviews.

I would spring $18.99 to try it.

If you see what's to the left, Roulette Rye, that's one of my favorite bottlings of MGP Rye - if you like MGP Rye.

Not an expert, but….😉 Near as I know, yes it’s pretty much only sold in parts of Wisconsin. The first time I saw it was years ago up in Steven’s Point. Since then I’ve seen it in a few other places. Among them Janesville and possibly Beloit. A guy in our bourbon/beer/cigar group stopped at a place in Janesville last year and bought 5 or 6 handles for us and friends to share. Not outstanding, but it doesn’t suck either. Easy drinking 80 proof rye. At $19.00-$22.00 a handle, no complaints. 😎

Yes, I have tried Roulette.  At this particular store, however, it is $25, while I can get it right down the street for $20.  The prices really weren't so far out of line here, but most of the things I could get elsewhere for anywhere from 5 to 8 bucks less.  I probably should go back and get a handle of that Fleischmann's.  I drink enough Manhattans that it will certainly be consumed.  I'll let y'all know my impressions if I do.

Wow high prices on everything.  Is that North Carolina?  Is there sales tax on top of that?

For example, Calumet 16 yr at $170 is a trip.  Probably $30 more than locally here in Tx.
