At first I was like, "I'd be all over that!", then I looked again and saw the "5" on the price tag😆

Unless, of course, you buy in RI, NH or the PRM - no sales tax on hooch!  🥳

Same deal at the package stores on military bases.  Mom and I always make a field trip to the Amphib base in Little Creek, or the Coast Guard store when I visit her in VA.    DE doesn't have any sales taxes either.  That said, no sales tax doesn't always equate to good prices.

I learned early on that when haggling over bottles with some stores to always say “tax included” in my offers.

💡 😀

I learned to do that with buying cars too.  Some refer to it as "out the door" price.

I gotta laugh about this. I stopped at Binny’s yesterday mainly to grab JW Dant and JTS Brown BIB’s to replenish my Blend. I did have a quick look around and asked an assistant manager if they had anything allocated that was available. She said they had Blanton’s. I told her thanks and said I had enough Blanton’s and really didn’t need any more. You should have seen the look on her face. I turned around and walked away quickly ‘cause I really didn’t want to talk to her any more. She ain’t the nicest person, and has flat out lied to me a couple of times. It was fun getting the last word in for a change. 😝

I went in for a doctor’s  appointment this morning and decided to stop by a little store in the area.  It has been my source in the past for JBDC and it thought I would take a look around.

A whole new staff when I walked in.  I asked about the old group and they said new owner and new staff (all family).  I went to the JB area and no DC.  I asked and he said none left.

I walked around and got to the counter area and it looked like a museum.  EHT all varieties 3-5 deep, Weller flights, Stagg (jr)s, OFBB, Full BTACs , PVWs. WTMK and various others bottles.

Against my better judgement I asked on a few:

OFBB - $2000 (sold two already),

EHT FP - $399, $$350 for me,

GTS (BTAC) - $1100 &

WT 101 8 year JR tribute - $125

I asked if they had heard about the bourbon bust?

I left empty handed.

So, a local grocery store usually carries ECBP, either the seasonal releases or store picks.  I believe I mentioned that I purchased a bottle of B524 for around $65 a few weeks back.

This same store had a 25% off sale last week.  I noticed at lunch time the day before the sale that they had a 10 year old store pick for $76.99.  I would not have been a buyer @ $76.99 but I would have taken the plunge @ $57.74

I stopped by after work for one last scout of the inventory before the sale started the next day and noticed the ECBP bottles were no longer on the shelf.  Anyway, now that the sale is over, I noticed the same bottles returned to the shelf.  However, the price is now $86.99.  WTF.

I am hoping it was mispriced but who knows.

I passed it.  I also passed EC Rye Toasted @ $54.99.  This is also the same store where I saw WT101 8 year for $78.99.  Their prices have always been exceptional and well below competing liquor chains. However, that appears to be changing.

Of course, while I was there, a tater moved around every bottle in the allocated section, including intensely reading the label on two different bottles of the same release as if they were different.  He must have touched 20 different bottles.  He walked out with the ECBP store pick for $86.99.

I saw a new one for me - Baker's High Rye Bourbon.  Shelf tag said "Baker's Rye".  Price was quite a bit more than the regular Baker's it was next to, $80 odd something vs. mid $50s.

Taters and their ways - can't buy a bottle of booze without a whole lot of phone fondling.  Oh better take a picture, check something, text somebody, call somebody.  Block the whole shelf, the aisle too.  🤪

I was at a store today where HH7 has been $44.99 since it came out and KC9 for $34.99 since the age statement returned.  Today, they were $53.99 and $41.99.  Same store had a 20-25% increase across the board.  OGD BIB went from $20.99 to $26.99 and OGD 114 from $23.99 to $29.99.

This is a grocery store that at one time was a must stop but it has been quickly becoming a must pass.

I have now seen significant price increases at two grocery retailers and a top liquor chain in my area.  I noticed a smaller chain has increased prices as well but not as much.

Is this an Indiana distributor thing or are other areas of the country seeing price increases on standard bottles?

I jumped in to the Pride of Anderson County lottery  (selected by Rarebird 101) and had a 14yr WT in the cart.  I went to checked out and it was $699.99 + shipping.  And we all thought Campari was crazy, hard pass!

I told myself once this came around I'd pick one up...even at a premium price. But when faced with the chance I balked. Cheap bastard would approve and reward me with a 114 replacement. :)

Was it at or close to MSRP, or marked way up for tater novelty.

It was $199. I'm a big fan of the 114 and I noticed this bottle was 100. Over the past 5yrs I drink my bourbon over ice and rarely neat, so that was another thing in the back of my mind with the $2 sticker. I have no idea as to how this might hold up to ice. After some thought I'm good with 6 of the 114 vs the deeply aged single bottle. ???

I passed on a Baker's High Rye.  It may have been a reasonable price at $67.99  I opted for Larceny BP C924 for $58.99.

That's quite a bit less then when I saw the Baker's High Rye.  But still, seems like quite a reach for seven year old OGD.  I'm assuming that is what it is.

I had to stop and see “my guy” at one store. I passed on everything. Most notably was BT at $25.99.
