ProofPositive
Going to go with the WTRR-101 tonight. The nightcap will either be VWSR or I may break open the newly-acquired KS....too many choices...a good problem to have.
DrinkyBanjo
Last night I had some Ancient Ancient Age 10 YO. I think that this is the best bourbon for the money, I think it out performs EC 12. I then followed up with a Weller 12 YO. This is another price performer in my book. I'm off to my brothers today and I'm hoping that he will share some of the ETL that I got him for Christmas. I've had a pretty bad cold this weekend which is why I've been staying away from the higher end booze. If I feel good tonight I think I'll have some WT RB, I love that stuff! I think that this is the best bourbon for the money, I think it out performs EC 12.Here is one brand I've not partaken of in many a year. I can't remember if I ever tried AAA. I saw one the other day that looked like it had been on the shelf for a while. If I remember correctly, I think it was around $12-14. I have grown accustomed to seeing a label on the front & back of bottles. This one only has a front label and no bar code anywhere(?). How old would that bottle be - anybody know?I'm sure it's on the BT website, but what is the difference between AAA 10yo and AAA 10-Star or are they the same? How many different AAA bourbons were/are produced?

BourbonBalls
OK....Im having the VanWinkle 12 year old, Lot "B"....VERY good stuff....I'll tell you what I'm having with it altho I am not in the habit of enjoying bourbon with food:I was at a dinner with Julian and many others at the Bourbons Bistro in Louisville last year. Julian was drinking a bottle of his with no label and said that is good with cheese...but not just cheese, but GOUDA cheese.I'm having my pour right now with an extra aged Gouda. Fantastic. Julian was right on. Certainly a master when it comes to what pleases the palette. The VanWinkle products are the best in the Bourbon World. Thanks Julian.Hope to see you in Louisville soon...I'll be back there again in March. Virus_Of_Life
Having just washed my newly acquired Reidel Bourbon glass, I decided it should not just sit there empty, no that would be wrong to deny this new glass in it's new home of any libation! So I too am having some VWSR 12yo lot B, first time for me and I am quite impressed, can't have too much though because I need to get to the gym still (this belly is getting out of control!) but later on I will refill this lovely glass possibly with some WLW as I have been dying to try that since bringing it home! Or possibly the new Stagg? Oh it is nice to have these kind of decisions to make in life!
ProofPositive
So I too am having some VWSR 12yo lot B, first time for me and I am quite impressed I am right with you! The VWSR is very, very good....I cannot imagine it getting any better! But, I have not yet opened the 15yo Pappy and will not be getting the ORVW 15yo until Tuesday. From everything I read here, it is even better! I will have to pop one of those and see for myself. Congratulations on the Pappy 23! Tough to spend that kind of dough I will agree....but, we'll not look back and regret. As I see it, if we had let the opportunity pass, then we definitely would have had hindsight regret. I would rather have a little less money now than be kicking myself in the butt for the next 2 yrs (or more) before Julian bottles another round of 23 again. As someone else put it here on the Forum, "it's only money". Wayne
NYtaster
Tonight I opened my new WLW Single Barrel. In comparison to the GTS I opened last week this was a little more my speed. It isn't anywhere near as overpowering as the Stagg, much more enjoyable. Now a question, does any one know anything about this particular bottle? It is in the same bottle as the GTS 2005, has a hand printed lable that says its 121 proof. I can't find anything on the distillers website about this particular issue. ChuckMick
Sorry about the posting of the WLW stuff. I am drinking a sample of the ETL Binny bottling. ChuckMick
doubleblank
Tonight its Weller 12yo SB.....Barrel Reject '01'....BR01 as Tim coined it. Sweet SW entry.......with a drier, citrus laced finish (Doug's description actually....but dead on). Drier, lightly oaked finish puts it somewhere between a VWSR12yo and the Pappy 15. This one is actually 160 months old.Randy
Joeluka
Tonight I'm enjoying Hirsch 16 , Old Rip 10-107, and AAA 10 year old. I find myself working this trio more and more. CHEERS Joe
barturtle
This evening, in what must be the quickest from-the-store-to-the-glass I've ever done, I'm drinking some Saz Jr. Actually doing a little side-by-side with the Saz 18. IMHO, I think this one is going to be a much better whiskey, though I'm not sure it's really going to handle that much age on it(might need a different spot in the warehouse to let it age that long). This has got to be the best young rye I've ever had. Now we just need a 10yo SB version. Looks like I'll have to go pick up the last couple of bottles I left on the shelf! CrispyCritter
Good stuff, both Sazeracs. I started out with ERSB 90 proof, then took a right turn and headed for Ireland (Powers Gold Label), then a U-turn to Canada (Forty Creek Barrel Select), and then south to Kentucky (Bernheim Straight Wheat). Good thing I don't have to drive anywhere.
ProofPositive
Starting out the evening with my first pour of WTKS. Much to my pleasure, it is everything they say...and more. Recently, I read a review that claimed KS is as good & on same par as WT12. Having now had both, I tend to almost agree....they are very, very close to one another. Finishing the night at the same place as the last few evenings - VWSR....sweet dreams!
NYtaster
Tim, Thanks, I had actually read the second thread, Great notes BTW! I must be getting forgetful in my old age. LOL! kbuzbee
Well I decided to venture on to the lower shelf for a couple days. First was Ezra Brooks 7yo 101. This was not good. I was lamenting the $12 I'd paid for it. Never really found anything to grab onto. I was surprised as I remembered it getting some positive feedback around here somewhere. Then again, my memory isn't what it once was.... Regrets about the EB101 were quickly displaced when I tried a 100 proof Colonel Lee. I won't go into my disappointment with this one here (it got it's own thread ) but it really helped me appreciate the Ezra..... Last night I returned to my main pour, Kentucky Spirit. Oh wonderful spirit! Sweet, full, sensorial delight.......... Enough wild trips for a bit, I'm afraid. Ken
barturtle
Last night it was a Saz Jr. Sazerac. Very nice, mixes better than the Saz 18. I believe it calls for a Sazerac shoot-out between it and the WT rye. Will report back when I get another WT.

Hillbilly
Finished off a bottle of Woodford Reserve last night. It's not the most expresive bourbon out there, but I always enjoy a visit with it from time to time. Very smooth and clean with an appetizing vanilla finish.I'll pick up another bottle in a month or so.
NYtaster
After the GTS 2005 scared me off last week I let it sit for a while. I'm giving it another visit tonight and it seems much more friendly. Maybe a case of first night jitters Really, I think that after knowing a little more of what to expect this particular bourbon is much more drinkable. Tonight I am noting a little tobacco up front with the wood and some spice mid palate and the black cherry way at the end. Just the ramblings of a novice!! Virus_Of_Life
First a little sip of William Larue Weller but then, Peter Jake's Private Keep! This is STILL one of my favorites. I have been doing searches on this in the database and am going to try to writing it all out into a pdf file to read tomorrow at work, you know while I am on 'breaks.' I don't know exactly what it is about it, but this is the second bottle I've pulled the plug on in the last 6 months and am just as impressed with this one as I was with the 1st if not more so. I truly am thinking about trying to acquire an entire case of this, Binny's lists it very reasonably priced compared to what I can get it for out here... Does Binny's ship? I'll find out soon...
