BTAC spotted in DC area?

I've been out of town for almost 3 weeks and haven't had a chance to get out and scout any stores. Has the BTAC showed up in the DC area yet?

What about the other specialty bottlings released this fall? Parker's Heritage Collection or Four Roses Rutledge 40th Anniversary bottling or Wild Turkey American Spirit 15 yo or Russell's Reserve Rye?

Anything else I'm forgetting?

Thanks,

Well, I ventured out after work and found some of the new BTAC at Washington Wine & Liquor, 1200 E St NW - downtown near Hotel Harrington, kitty corner from the Barnes & Noble. This seems to be the most reliable place for getting the BTAC at reasonable prices - have had luck there for several years in a row now.

I snagged two bottles each of the Sazerac, Handy, and Stagg. They still have several bottles left of the Handy and Stagg. They are $65 each, which I hope is a pretty reasonable price for the area. They have generally had pretty good prices on the BTAC (and most other whiskey, for that matter) over the years.

Unfortunately, they still have the older bottlings of the WLW (2005) and ER17 (2006) and did not get any of the recent bottlings. I assume they didn't restock those b/c the older ones didn't sell out. Anyone interested in these older bottlings?

I carry the Parker Heritage bottling (the 122 proof one that was a Malt Advocate highlight for 2007) in my store (near American University)

WTAS 15? I'm trying desperately to obtain some, but I fear that the D.C. market isn't slated to get any. I've tried it, it's delicious. I want it.

I have several bottlings of Four Roses, but have not, as of yet, obtained the Jim Rutledge.

Russell's Reserve Rye is forthcoming. No ETA yet. I tried it two nights ago, and I like it.

What's your price (or price range), if you don't mind saying, for the Parker Heritage bottling?

Are you at Ace Beverage? Friends with Jake Parrott?

Yes on both counts

I think my price on the PH is around $110.

Thanks,

There was some Stagg (9 cases) and some 18 yr. Saz (3 cases) allotted to Maryland this year. I managed to snag two of the cases of Stagg for myself and friends and one case of Saz. The Saz was only shipped to two stores: Gaithersburg and Burtonsville. I got the one case shipped to Gaithersburg and one of my co-workers who lives out that way got two more bottles of it at the Burtonsville store. As I understand it the rest had been reserved. However, they might still have some GTS at the ABC store in Burtonsville. I'll drive out there this weekend and take a look. Another advantage to buying BTAC whiskeys in Maryland is the price. I paid less than $50/bottle for both Stagg and the 18 yr. old Sazerac.

I am. Thanks for the tip. I'll swing by there during lunch.

I found two bottles of the new WLW at Wine Specialist and bought both. They still had at least one bottle of the new Stagg on the shelf.

Now I am just looking for 2 bottles of the 2007 ER17 and I will have completed my set of the 2007 BTAC...

Kevin, thanks so much for helping me acquire the 2007 ER17! I owe you one.

What did you think of the ORVW 15/107, if you've had a chance to open it?

I haven't had difficulty finding GTS, WLW and ER in Virginia - if you know where to look. For instance, the Clifton store had several of each of these three just a couple weeks ago.

Staggmeister, was your trip to Washington Wine & Liquor successful?

Haven't been able to get down there, as I'm in training all this week out here in the 'burbs. I won't be downtown again until Friday. I did find some 2007 ER 17 yr. old at the Muddy Branch store in Gaithersburg. Also the 12 yr. old Van Winkle Reserve.

Didn't get a chance to open it before flying to Japan -- however I've had a chance here to try the very rare Van Winkle Family Reserve 15 year old (bourbon, not rye!) that I think predates the Pappy branding, alongside an 88076-UPC Old Fitzgerald 1849 with the 8 year age statement that we talked about. Both have that distinctive S-W character. Now I can't wait to try the OVWR 15/107 when I get home to compare.

I finally made it over there. Last Friday there were 6 bottles of William Larue Weller ($65.00/per - ugh!) and 4 bottles of 20 yr. old Pappy Van Winkle (at $85.00 - doubleplus ugh!) on the shelf. No BTAC ryes but they did have a bottle of Rittenhouse (for $149.00 - yikes!). No Stagg.

Betty Jo,

You are showing great restraint these days.

Are they overworking you again on The Hill?

BTW, did you know there is a band called "Heaven Hill"?

To avoid being indicted for thread hijacking I will state for the record that not one bottle from the BTAC has shown up in a liquor outlet in Yavapai County, Arizona. I guess that's alright with me; liquor and Zoloft don't mix anyway. Who said two wrongs don't make a right, eh?

Yours truly,

Dave Morefield

BTW, I recently dropped by Ace Beverage. Very nice store. Nice selection of wine and scotch. Great selection of bourbons and ryes, probably the best I have seen in the DC area, though I have not been to Schneider's yet. Owner was very nice. One caveat though, do not expect to get a deal. Prices are premium. On a related note, I also recently went by Montgomery County Liquor and Wine in Bethesda. They had Stagg, Eagle Rare, and Sazerac for list price. (mid $40) I bought a few bottles, but they had more.
