...Ellysium reminded me of what fine, inexpensive dessert wines Andrew Quady makes. We enjoy Essensia (sp) quite often...

Neat story, Randy. I purchased one each of the Essencia and Elysium a decade or so ago, and enjoyed the Essencia some time back. I find the '97 Elysium in a hanging rack in the next room. Will move it up to the top of the 'to open' list. I guess it's time, huh?

Had a pour of Evan Williams for the first time. Not a bad bourbon, especially considering the price. Joe

A bottle of Moosehead Beer with a shot and 1/2 of Old Forester mixed with a shot of my 37 year old Peanut Lolita Liquor on Ice works for me. I love to have a couple of different things each night!

Good 'ole Pappy 15. Nice big pour. No kidding but it crossed my mind tonight than gremlins are sneaking into my bar and drinking my Pappy 15 exclusively icon11.gif . Every time I look at this bottle it is way lower than my last recall. Maybe there's a hole in the bottom? icon12.gif

I'm still enjoying my first pour of Weller Centennial...I like everything about this bourbon, the color, the nose, taste and finish. I know it's hard to find nowadays, but if I can find it, I'll buy more.

Pappy 20

I'm moving it to the back of the cabinet tomorrow night and I'll move something else forward before I mess up and polish off the whole bottle.

I know exactly what you mean. I just finished off my bottle last week and have the replacement still bunkered in the basement in an attempt to force myself to drink others on the shelf.... unfortunately my Pappy 15 is taking the brunt of this policy icon10.gif. Gotta grab some lower shelf stuff before I drink myself broke icon11.gif.

A big pour of Elijah Craig 12. Sadly, there is only a couple of pours left. Happily, there is more at the store.

A pour of VOB BIB.... this has to be one of the greatest values in bourbon today.... $11.90 a bottle... How do they even make it for this???

I started with a couple of WLWeller 12 yo from the Binny's special bottle, neat.

This is the first WLWeller 12yo I have had in a few years, (not available in MI) I tried it a couple of days ago and I like it better now.

I look forward to spending some time with it.

And now into WLWeller Antique 107 over cracked ice.

The ice really brings out the wood but this is good wood.

One of the very few, if not the only bourbon that I can say this about.

As promised, I'm going to grab a glass of the 120th to toast one of our newest members!

Hey Toby, this pour is for you... I'll make it a long pour since it's almost 400 miles away!

Cheers!

I'm sipping a Black Maple Hill rye 18 years old. Cask 80,47.5% ABV. I like this with a few cubes and a very little water added. The richness seems to come out more so with the rocks. This is a flavour I find hard to describe, well-aged rye whiskey is quite unique I think especially this one. It has notes of old flowers or old books in a cedar closet maybe.

A decent pour of WT Tribute as we watch the lightning, rain and winds here in Virginia.... may need another couple before the nights out...

Tribute ... yum.

I'm doing some non-bourbon things. I had some Hofbrau Maibock with dinner (outstanding), Macallan 18yr Fine Oak (so-so) and then switched to Canadian: Wiser's 18yr.

My wife and I met two other couples for a nice evening on the patio of our favorite local independent restaurant. My evening began with a couple of pints of Ommegang Hennepin Saison and when everyone else ordered dessert, I topped the meal off with a nice pour of ERSB on the rocks. Now that we're back home, I'm capping the evening with some of the Binny's pick of ETL.

What grand ending to an otherwise stressful hump day.

Having the first pour of the evening, EC18. It's been awhile since I've had it and I'm enjoying it a lot. This bottle's got a lot more spice than I've experienced in the 18 previously, but still very woody. Got a little of that slightly musty taste. I dig it!

Cheers!

Finally got around to buying/trying Saz Jr. It's well distributed here - I think I've seen it in every OR liquor store I've visited - so when I've been surveying the shelves and spot it I've previously thought well, I can get some of that anytime.

Today I grabbed a bottle on the way home.

This is great! It's much better than Ritt BIB, and definitely smoother than WT. I had some neat when I got home, then tried it with a little Coke. Right now (10:01pm local time) I'm sipping a very small glass with a Snickers bar. Works with that as well.

Wife liked it too. She had hers on-the-rocks, which is her usual way of drinking whiskey.

Doin' the decades tonight.

Started with some VOF BIB from 1954 (distillation), in honor of Luna56's birthday. Continued with some Weller BIB (distilled 1942), which I've vatted with some current Weller SR in order to subdue rampant 'old-wood' menthol-itis, somewhat successfully. Am currently assaying a swig of 1950-distilled OGD BIB, and will finish up with some Old Fitz Prime (86.8 proof) from a 1968 Lexington (the racehorse) decanter. That one's a good pour, indeed.

I had some of the current Weller SR (new issue, so presumably post-2000) in some diet cola earlier, and don't recall having a 1930s-era whiskey in the house (even in minis -- closest I come is a 1940 Old Thompson blended).

The '80s and '90s? Well, they're no challenge! So why bother? Then again, let me scan the shelf...

Good thing I'm on summer break, huh?

Yes, I think it's a hallmark rye. I'd stop short of calling it the better of Rittenhouse BIB, just different -- both serve with excellence neat and as a mixer. That's an unusual -- and powerful -- double-dip.

Well, Tim, I'm honored but I guess toasting you back with some EC18 may not be entirely appropriate, knowing your distaste for the stuff.

Ah, WTF, it's the spirit that counts! Pun untintentional but welcome nonetheless.

Gulp! I mean, Cheers!
