You can't go wrong with a nice pour of JWB!! I had a few huge pours last weekend at a wedding. Its a very good blend. I was getting a lot of black licorice from it last time, yum!

Once again at the very same restaurant where we'd we had eaten before, a party of 10 of us ate there this past Saturday. And once again I had JW Black. Two healthy pours. This time I did get a hint of black licorice. Not much, just a hint. If the flavor had been overpowering It would have put me off of having a second glass.

If I had a bottle of JW Black here at home I would taste it side by side with what is left in my last bottle of Green. The black seems to have something in its taste profile that I don't detect in the Green label. Something that if it isn't overpowering (I'm not a fan of licorice or anise), adds to my enjoyment of the whisky.

In the glass today....

Inverarity 10year Single Malt from Speyside Highlands. I believe that it is an older bottling because it is using the old label style.

I find it to be a wonderful Scotch. Bits and pieces of grain and peat....sprinkled in with some peat and iodine. Just the right amount of barrel char to smooth things out a bit. I also get some honey in the nose.

I don't know what the new label of Inverarity taste like, but this one is a winner.

Has it always been Aultmore? I thought there were a couple of different versions of the 10yr??? Maybe, Linkwood?

I am pretty new to scotch, so I am unclear on this one.

This bottle is a Single Malt...and has lot's of character. Seems alot more Islay than a Speyside would normally be. Is this normal for an Aultmore whisky?

It has been quite some time since I had any Aultmore but I do have a bottle of the 12 yo due in with a friend from the UK next week. Once I open it I'll let you know.

Really enjoying my first pour of Redbreast 12 tonight. I am mightily impressed. Spicy with sherry notes. I thank the folks on this forum for peaking my interest on this one. An instant favorite!

Inver House Green Plaid... This is probably the best cheap blend I have had to date!! I paid $5.50 for a 750ml bottle. Jim Murray was right about this whisky. For everyday, no thinking drinking it is an incredible value. BTW, I am drinking it neat and its very pleasant.

Redbreast is the only whiskey from the Irish Distillers' Group that I will actually purchase (though I will do a dram of Powers' Gold Label every now and then).

I remember getting a surprisingly-strong whiff of orange rind the last time I had it...

Try nosing Redbreast straight from the bottle; pure sawdust/wood shavings. I like to nose from the bottle because it accentuates the characteristics of the wood, I find.

Today I am enjoying the end of two fine Canadian bottles. I started with Alberta Premium Limited Edition, which is a phenomenal 25-year-old Canadian rye (true 100% rye). It really is an exceptional whisky. Intense toffee and vanilla when nosed from the bottle. Toasted oak and maple in the glass. Subtle, creamy sweetness on the palate drys with heavy oak and spicy rye in the finish. Thank God I've got an unopened bottle in reserve.

Now I'm on to Crown Royal Limited Edition. No age statement, but rumour has it that it's a 15-year-old. It has the familiar earth and herbal aromas with light fruit, like a delicate cognac, but a fuller body than regular Crown with notes of brown sugar. One of my favorite Canadians to be sure.

Yes, indeed. Orange. Specifically I get orange Lifesavers Creme Savers.

I've used Redbreast to make an Old Fashioned of sorts, which takes advantage of the orange notes in the whiskey.

Cragganmore 12. Fruity nose, sweet middle and a finish thats not peaty or smokey, but definitely scotch. This is a very easy whiskey to have with dinner. You could have it with breakfast for that matter.

Can you give a short description of your thoughts on the Old Pultney, please?

I really love this dram. It is smooth, fruity, lightly sherried, and has a sea salt brine that I never thought I'd like. It is my favorite dram in the price range (<$40, I paid ~$30). I think Gov is a big fan too.... he called it a "magical dram"

Cheers!

Our cruise last week gave me the opportunity to try scotch and single malts for the first time and I was impressed. I tried Glenmorangie 10,

Cragganmore 12, Glenfiddich 12 (those 3 were my favorites) Talisker 10 (a little more peat that the rest but still good) Dalwhinnie 15 and Johnny Walker Black. Bourbon is still my first choice, but the above are great substitutes and I plan to investigate further.

Old Pulteney 12 is an excellent whisky for an outstanding price! Think of briney, salty sea air, floral, sweet island fruit, oily, huge finish! Like James said, I feel as if OP 12 has some kind of mystical magical influence on me.
