Dickel #12, then 80's-era ND Old Taylor 86 -- each in the Riedel glass with one cube.

I just opened a bottle of Very Old St. Nick Winter Rye and I hope that it gets better as it has time to air (like I feel my Eliajah Craig 12 yr. bottle did), because this stuff tastes predominantly like sherry, with a little bit of tabacco, a touch of black licorice, char, and leather. Not what I was hoping for.

Oh well, back to work.

Sorry you didn’t like it. Old st Nick winter rye is one of my all time favourite brands, but I have only tasted older bottlings. Besides our differences in preferred taste, it may be a big difference over time as well I guess. Maybe its not even made at the same distillery.

Saw on your profile that you like to deadlift. I did a lot of that stuff myself many, many years ago.

Thanks for your comment. Next time I have it, I will try it neat, instead of on the rocks. See if that changes anything.

Having something I haven't had in a very long time. Not bourbon, but Crown Royal. This was my whiskey of choice for a long time. Ahhhhh, the memories. A very nice change of pace. :yum: Joe

Still working my way through unloved bottles via Manhattans -- Forester BIB (dimple bottle) and a harsh 70's S-W Cabin Still. (I don't think I've ever had a wheater Manhattan!)

Any bitters recommendations?

A few rocks glasses of EC12 with a few bowls of aromatic pipe tobacco. Pretty m'kay.

Followed up the Manhattans with a quick flight of 70's Seagram's Benchmark vs. two rums -- notes in the [thread=10132]VBT#128 thread[/thread] (for reasons that will be apparent if you visit the thread!)

A few fingers on Antique with a hint of water. This has to be on of bourbon's best values.... and always a safe harbor when one does not know what to drink.....

A taste test between

Four Roses Super Premium

Four Roses Yellow Label

What does that Super Premium taste like David?

I will open mine in a few weeks.

Evan Williams Green Label over cracked ice.

Spicy mint for a hot humid day.

Ditto for today.

These 1 liter bottles hold a lot of whiskey.

Went to watch some of my bowling buddies play bocce tonight. Went for something different. WT 101. First time I've ever had it. Looks like I might have to get me a bottle. Joe

Something steered me toward the WT Rye. I see that it was my evil twin as it was the only 101 proof WT that I had open.

Not Really, but I am sure it seems that way.
