Starting with Julio's Weller and then probably moving on to Pappy 15 and some VSOF if I'm still rolling.

After a 15 hour day yesterday at work and an early wake up call, I'm ready to relax this evening. I'm setting up a short flight of WTKS, WT12 Gold Foil and WTAS.

Started earlier with JB Black and Coke. Had to take the wife out to pick up a couple of things. Came home, had a late supper, and I'm now enjoying WTRB. Joe

A couple of Little King's Cream Ales to start. Followed up with a Jacob's Well and Red Rock Ginger Ale. Wow, does that Red Rock have a bite! It's a nice mixture. Went with a little of the Jacob's, neat. Not a bad pour. A little on the light side, but rather enjoyable. I still think it's very nice packaging. And, as I read this nice packaging, I've just discovered that Jacob's is "Twice Barreled". They point out: "The contents of select bourbon barrels are married to bring the subtle flavors together and then re-barreled in the same casks for continued aging and smoothness. Of the 84 months old that the label states, I wonder how much of that time is in the re-barreled part.

Not sure what I'm on to next.

Last night was a 1:1 vatting of Weller 12 and Antique. Resulting proof is 98.5 and average age is 9.5 years. I call it "Weller not-quite-Centennial".

(if I had some Centennial I'd do a comparison. If anyone does have all three on hand, I'd consider it a favor if you did that comparison and post your notes)

Tonight it'll be ETL. I may succeed in polishing off the bottle.

Sampled new purchases tonight...OGD 100, VOB 6 and Henry McKenna...and enjoyed them all.

OGD 100...this is close to what I used to think of when whiskey came to mind...corn, some sweetness, some burn....but very drinkable neat.

VOB 6....sharp - ? more rye? - corn, burn....but again...very drinkable neat.

Henry McKenna....a desert compared to the first two....sweet corn...smooth.

I am glad I picked up these BIBs on my recent KY run....very nice additions.

Will try them with a little ice next time.

I'm almost to the end of a pour of Colonel Lee 100 bib. It's similar in color to VOB, medium amber, legs about 1/2 inch apart round the glass, but has a bolder flavor and better finish IMO than the VOB. Although I like them both, I would give the edge to the Colonel. VOB can be found anywhere in Kentucky, it's just a shame that CL is so hard to find around here these days (some people here in KY haven't even heard of it) and at 9.99 a bottle, you really can't beat the value.

My wife and I went to dinner with another couple tonight. Had a JB White and coke before and after dinner. We went over to their house afterwards, and I enlightened my buddy with a pour of GTS 2007.:bigeyes: He liked it! Joe

I had a buddy over for dinner tonight. We started with Mount Gay Rum and Tonics (very good). Dinner consisted of two shrimp dishes prepared from locally produced shrimp (we have an indoor shrimp farm in mid-Michigan). The first dish was a Spanish inspired shrimp with dried paprika peppers and garlic. The second dish was a Thai-styled shrimp stir fry with Asian long beans.

After dinner, we sampled three cheeses: a Michigan cheddar, a Michigan blue cheese, and a California Humbolt goat cheese packed in vegetable ash (good, though). We also had MI pears, peaches, and plums. Drinks consisted of a tasting of OGD 114 and GTS Fall 2005, along with a short pour of Laird's Bonded Apple Brandy to tantalize the senses.

All in all, a great night. Still sipping on the OGD 114. Amazing bourbon at an amazing price.

The last of my PVW15yr... just a touch of water on this one and it opens up so well... next bottle of this will be teh BD/BE SB bottelings... so looking forward to those....

Beer. Some Dundee Wheat (because we wound up with wheat malt for our brewing instead of the Pale we thought we were getting), a Grolsch, some homebrew, and a Heineken to wash down the Taco Bell. The first 3 were consumed while we brewed batch #2, wheat malt, Warrior Hops (bittering), and Strisselspalt Hops (aroma). Not sure how this one will turn out because of the wheat malt...

Been putting off posting, but tonight seemed right :)

Fav Whisk(e)y is George Dickel (yes, I know it's not bourbon) but mostly drink EW 1783..... and always have on hand....

@Barturtle..... you did not burst a bubble, you updated my info and I thank you. I will finish by current stock of George Dickel, and that will be the end of it.

I know its weird, but I have no problem drinking a "foreign" drink... but I hate when you "think" its USA, but they hide the fact it is French or whatever.......

Truth be told I don't pour much Dickel anyway....hard to find here most of the time. My real and absolute fav is Old Grand Dad 114, but for some reason just a few shots (I only drink neat) and I'm nearly asleep.... :) so I don't ever drink more than one shot.....

Well I have no problem with Wild Turkey and just opened a new WTKS tonight. Special Bottling, that's been spoke of here before. I like the bite of the rye right off the start in this bottle, it's a bit hot on entry but the nose is sweet WT all the way. I have to believe a drop of water may reveal some amazing things in this one.

Well, if I wanna feel like an "American" I can always say that I'm supporting American jobs and American Industry and American Heritage. I have no problem with giving the people who were willing to support these people through rough times when the distilleries would have otherwise been lost the credit they are due.

Glad you are enjoying bourbon and developing a philosophy with which to drink by. While, I fully respect your opinion and am glad you let us know about your thoughts on the matter....I don't agree with your reasoning by which you leave some of the best bourbon facilities out of your purchase rituals.

BT has some deep roots to Japan in their history and Bernheim is named after a Jewish family....how do those fit in with your M.O.? I don't think that foreigners have anything to do with whisky production and buying preferrences. America is a melting pot of thousands of differing cultures and countries.....it is time we left predjudice to foreign owners behind and choose our bourbons based on taste, style and quality of manufacturing.

Four Roses and Wild Turkey are two of my all-time favorites...both are foreign owned(for the time being) and make some of the best hooch on the planet. Keep it up you foreign bastards...someone has to lead the way. Until it's us again....I'm glad it's you. :bowdown: :bowdown: :bowdown:
