I've got the games that I want to watch sitting on the DVR and there's rarely a good game on opening Saturday, so it wasn't a huge sacrifice.

Moving on to Weller Centennial

Dickel No. 12. Just unbelievably good. It's been months since I had this; I'm dumbfounded by the quality of this pour. I have a few bottles in reserve, and I will be picking up more while it's still this very well-aged juice in the bottle.

Regards,

After watching the last two at Wrigley, I'm home from Chicago and watched the Phils win and split the series with the Cubs on WGN, and enjoyed a pour of Pappy 15.

First, a Sauza Hornitos Anejo margarita with some grilled chicken for dinner. Now, moving on to WTRB, OGD 114 and a bit of Weller 12.

Had a nice family cookout at my brother's house. Miller Lites and Old Forester 86. The 86 was surprisingly good, as I prefer the 100 so much more. Must have been the great company, great setting, and great weather, I guess. :D

Now, after an absolutely terrific Weihenstephaner Hefe Weissbier, I'm on to Weller Antique and FR 120. It's getting late, but a Sazarac cocktail and cigar, are calling me...

Was at a party tonight at a friends house. Had a few different things. Hennessy Paradis Cognac, GTS 2007, Weller Antique, and JD Silver Select. It was a great night, with good food, good friends, and good whiskey. Joe

Joe....of course I would have preferred a Cubs sweep but I am glad you saw the Phils win one while you were in town! I owe you a pour!

We were starting to get a little long there in the other thread so it's time to start a new one.... Maybe not officially summer but close enough!

I'll kick it off with a bottle that could also be found very soon in the empty bottle support group thread and also the what did you purchase thread; Wild Turkey Kentucky Spirit pewter top first issue - bottled August of 1996 to be exact. One more pour out of this wonderful bottle and it's gone, luckily I recently found a dusty replacement; although one of these is never enough so I'll be looking for more!

Tim's mention of a Binny's bottling of Van Winkle reminded me that I still have a few ounces of a superficially similar bottling. The label says Van Winkle Family Reserve, 18 years old, 105.2 proof, bottled exclusively for Park Avenue Liquor Shop.

I drink so seldom these days that I sometimes fear I'll lose all my taste memory. I shouldn't have worried.

As soon as I pulled the cork I flashed back to the first Van Winkle I ever opened, the Old Rip Van Winkle 10 y/o, 107 proof. I can't do a detailed comparison, but the family resemblance is unmistakable. My overall impression is that the VW character still comes through, but I would have preferred to drink this bottling at a younger age. There's just a little too much char influence for my taste. The finish is very long, but it is much too dry.

I'm glad I had the opportunity to acquire this bottle, but I wouldn't replace it, even at the price I paid about six years ago.

Yours truly,

Dave Morefield

Evan Williams Single Barrel 1998, neat.

Sunday I took some WLWeller Centennial over to a party and it got some good reactions.

One guy said I can't smell but I can smell the carmael in it.

Just had my first Sam Adams Octoberfest beer of the season (even though it's 90 outside ). This has been my Fall beer for the last several years, and I'm finding this one to be exceptional. It's a great bridge from the lighter Summer beers, and the Dark Winter brews which I'll be going to in a couple of months.

I'm staring longingly at my OCPR. It's next...

Cheers!

JOE
