tommyboy38
Uhh.........stupid question..........Is the WTKS any good? (Of course. all bourbon is good to some degree) It's double the cost of WT101, does it taste twice as good? And any idea how long it's aged? I don't have one in the bunker yet and I've already gone overboard with bourbon purchases so what's a few more bottles? I guess i just conviced myself to get one.On a scale of 1 to 10, would a few SB-er's care to give it a rating?I'll add my bottle info as soon as I get one. Josh
I've only tasted ones belonging to Oscar, but from what I remember the older bottle I had was really really great, one of the best whiskeys I've ever had. The newer one was ok, but surprisingly young, unremarkable and inferior to any of the RB's I've had.
OscarV
Hey tommyboy38.It's sad to say but I would avoid any WTKS with the light wood top, they are to young.Look around for ones that were bottled in 2004 or older, they are in the dark wood tops. Then the even older pewter tops are the real primo stuff. If you can score a 1995 and/or '96 you will have the best. tommyboy38
Oscar,Mission accomplished!! Went back today to where I saw one and I now have a pewter top WTKS from 2/20/96, Barrel 07, Warehouse D, Rick 32.Looks like a new addition to the list and also came boxed like Randy's.Also probably the cheapest one I've seen at $37. I bagged that turkey. Thanks to all for the feedback. Now I need to find one bottled on my anniversary so I can get my wife to drink whiskey with me. tommyboy38
And to think that I passed it up the first time. I've been hunting for dusty bottles and some possible SW whiskey but the WT isn't really on my radar right now and I'm still new to some of this. I consider every bottle with a tax strip and some products with an age statement that are no longer around. I might grab a 12 yr WT but I haven't seen one of the split labels around. And since they still make the WTKS, I haven't considered it a must get.

Both are excellent pours. Will

Or are dates on bottles dump dates?Maybe they mean 10 full days of bottling...as in a full shift...perhaps they are only bottling for a few hours and then switching to something else......or it could be complete marketing bullshit.

Kevin
I have not (yet) gotten into the WTKS movement, but I did see a 'dark wood top' (bottled '03) at the store for 40 bones.I would be excited, but I made a personal promise to not buy any more bourbon *tear* until i get a job, since i spent more than 100 bucks on it this week, and i love the stuff, obviously, but without an income, its a bit out of proportion. My logic says that if no one wanted it for six years, it should be there waiting for me in a couple of months. tommyboy38
Kevin,You're probably right. I've left a few things on some shelfs that I still have to go back for but after almost 30 years, I think they're safe.
TBoner
Famous last words...they're never safe. A half-dozen WT 12s...gone. A handful of Weller 107 L'villes...gone. 10 liters of old label Weller 12...gone. It only takes one enterprising lurker. Not trying to fuel anyone's acquisition disorder. Just sayin'...Regards,Tim

tommyboy38
TBoner (Tim),I don't think I would have left that many good bottles behind. Those are things I've rarely seen. In all my hunts, I've seen 1 WT12 and 1 WLWeller/L'ville.Maybe we need to lead the lurkers astray...I'll start...Hey, I love that Beam 8 star. It's great. I buy every bottle I see and will gladly pay 5 times as much as the store is asking!!
