Which Bottle Have You Laid To Rest?

As we've no thread of our own in the Scotch pages I thought I might start one to commemorate or bid good riddance to bottles that have passed.

My latest bottle to be buried was The Balvenie 12 yr Doublewood. A fine dram with a well balanced mix of malt and sherry. It was replaced immediately.

Glenmorangie Burgundy wood.

Really good, but I have some better ones I'm enjoying now, since I've received a few gifts as a house-warming, including HP 25 and Royal Lochnagar.

Numerous bottles which I can not remember all. The latest was A'bunadth batch #16.

Memorable bottles are Macallan 30 yrs, Ardbeg 1978, Springbank 15 yrs just to name a few.

My most recent laid-to-rest bottle was Cragganmore 12-year. I mourned its passing. Then I cracked open a bottle of Glenmorangie 10 and felt a little better.

Also laid to rest a Talisker 18 tonight . Wonderful scotch and also in need of replacing. A pricey bottle no doubt.

Just killed off my Macallan 12. Not real impressive. I doubt I'll ever buy another. No complexity and too much sherry for my taste.

i hear too much good about redbreast...so, what is a bourbon drinker to expect from this highly lauded bottling?

The Redbreast is smooth and has very nice sherry notes. As a bourbon drinker myself I usually recommend the Balvenie Doublewood 12 to others.

Tonight I killed my Lagavulin 16. Need another me thinks!

For me within the last two weeks.....The Balvenie FR, Old Grand-dad BiB, Ardbeg 10, Glenfiddich 12, Highland Park 12. Thank god I have lots more to open :grin:

Highland Park 18 is gone. Great scotch that won't be immediately replaced as the price is slightly too high in my books (~$85). To be sure, I prefer the Bowmore 17 @ ~$60.

I just recently kicked my Balvenie 17-year Sherry Cask, 1st release.

A better Sherry-matured Speyside you'll be hard-pressed to find!

Toward the end of the bottle, it started displaying a very interesting fruity tang, almost like a touch of apricot.

Anyway, it's gone now, and it'll be hard to find another one-- and even if I do, I probably won't be able to afford it.

Well, it was a truly wonderful product. I hope Balvenie releases one in the future like it. Oh sure, MacAllan 18-year is great-- but it costs 35% more!

I guess it is time to move on to something else-- like my Glenmorangie LaSanta, perhaps?

How was it? That's a bottle that tempts me every time I'm in the liquor store. I'm a huge fan of the big-time peaty island whiskys, and I'm afraid that this will be a milder, less-satisfying version.

I just killed a Crown Royal Cask 16. I'll be honest; it was way too smooth and sweet for my tastes. A very fine whskey, but too candyish for me. Ready for the blasphemy? I allowed a friend of mine to mix it with coke this weekend. I was just ready to be done with it. I want my whiskey to taste like whiskey, not a snow cone.
