funknik
Wow, back-to-back . . . am I the only one out here drinking? Lucky me.Today while grilling and enjoying a Sunday in the back yard I poured an Old Fitz BIB '93 and after a nice T-Bone I had an Old Ezra 7/101.Now I'm on the couch watching the 76ers and Magic and tasting a tad of Elijah Craig 12yr. When I picked up the bottle of VWFRR the other day, they had the OE on the shelf for $13 but I passed on it.

mgilbertva
Ok, tonight I'm drinking something weird. I purchased a bottle of Forty Creek Barrel Select. Frankly, I think it's overrated - reviewers spoke of it very highly but I find it a little bland. I know, it's Canadian, but there are some out there that I do like, e.g., Wiser's 18 yo is outstanding. I recently opened up a bottle of Rittenhouse Rye BIB and it's everything I love in a whiskey. I was looking at the not-empty bottle of Forty Creek and wondering what I should do with it (I have lots of other things to drink that I like much more) and on a whim I decided to do a Gillman and mix them. It worked! It made a very interesting, complex and pleasant blend that I'm going to have again. It's got some spice, a little wood, bananas, vanilla. I did a 1:2 mix, Ritt to 40 Creek. smokinjoe
Virgin 7 yr 101. If you've lately been disapointed in WT 101, and can get your mitts on this one, you'll do yourself a favor by picking it up. Or, you can go with the Old Ezra 7 yr 101. Same thing. I need to arrange a trip to Alabama, so I can get another bottle.

funknik
Having some Ritt BIB also.I'm getting ......pudding! Seriously though I like his stuff now.I like it, too. I have, however, decided that it needs ice and/or water . . . I almost invariably prefer my whiskey neat, but this stuff needs augmentation. The water seems to eliminate the juniper/pine flavor. The taste I had from someone else's bottle seemed much richer than what I've been drinking. The water definitely softens it up and (yes . . .) brings out the flavors. There seems like a good amount of barrel in the finish, too, which I appreciate. Sijan
Lately I've just been having a lot of WT101 in hot toddies - it's about the only thing that gives me a respite from this cold I can't shake...I still don't have my voice back after losing it on Sunday.
