I did the same not too long ago. I have 8 in the bunker that I paid $12 for out the door. I keep seeing prices on the SR go up and up so I thought I ought to put some away.

I'm not in love with it but for $12 it's fine.

Since it is on sale for $10.99 currently, Weller Special Reserve is the second cheapest bourbon in Maine right now (after Ten High which is $9.49 & still KSBW here).

Because of that and because I'm always afraid they're going to get wise and raise the price on me ($12.99 regular here!) -- I bought 3 more bottles today . . . I should have enough WLW SR to last quite a while -- 5 in the bunker.

Picked up a bottle of ERSB. This was one of the first bourbons I tried. I'm looking forward to seeing what I think of it now that I've tried several others.

Grabbed a bottle of Evan Williams Green and a

bottle of Sam Houston. The SH is impressive

looking and I'm looking forward to having a

splash. I bought the EVG because it was on

sale and it seems a waste to go to the store

and only buy one botttle.

It's not exciting, but I recently ran out and needed a replacement. Maker's Mark. Like many here, Maker's was one of my intro bourbons. Even though, I'm hundreds deep into other bourbons now, I still gotta whole lotta love for MM.

That's a fantastic price. Over here in MA it's hard to find and when I do it's gone up to $18 from $13 last year. Buy some more at that price!

Since there has been so much discussion of late, I decided to try a bottle of OT (for $12.29 / 750ml).

Private Cellar - faux tax strip, 90 proof, no date. It was cheap ($7.85), so I got it for science.

Does anyone know anything about these older Private Cellar and Walker's Deluxe bottles, is it any good?

Gus, for me Walker's Deluxe has been hit or miss, but when it's good, it's very good. I have had three Peoria bottles, and loved two of them.

Private Cellar: is it from Owensboro? If so, you'll be very happy with it, I think. It's very good, rich and robust, with a good dose of spice and a lingering finish.

Regards,

Thanks for the info.

I opened the Walker's last night. It's just ok, not bad but not great either, very short finish. I had just opened it, so I expect it'll improve after awhile since being opened.

The Private Cellar is indeed from Owensboro. It won't get opened tonight, but probably within the next few days.

Today I picked up an OWA, Lot 'B' Van Winkle, and 2 OGD 114s from the NH Liquor store . . . I can't believe OGD 114 is $18 there -- I have to buy 2 every time I stop.

Saw a place yesterday with OGD 114 (in the box no less) for $15, I feel like a tool now for passing it up but I was so nervous about going across the border with 35 bottles of wine, cider and whiskey that I didn't want to risk any more.

I DID manage to get 1 bottle each of WT 8, Old Forester BiB, 4R 120th, and Gristmill Corn Whiskey this week.

Which border? Hopefully not a US border. Now you'll need a passport or an enhanced driver's license, but you can go to a Windsor duty free return to the US with liquor by declaring it paying the tax approximately $3.00/liter and being subjected to a customs search. The dogs will go through your vehicle. If you don't declare, you're in big trouble.

Have you had any problem bring alcohol from Indiana to Michigan?

No, I haven't. There's nobody who actually checks that. Plus, I still don't see how Michigan's liquor importation laws are not a violation of the commerce clause, I really don't.

Anyway, we were going from NY to MI, so we had to cross the border twice. so were worried about bringing american stuff into Canada and the Canadian stuff into the U.S. Luckily, we made it thru w/o having to pay anything.

While perusing one of the better stocked state stores in the area, I happened upon a shelf with 6 bottles of Four Roses Single Barrel sitting on it.

While it was a real sight to see 6 beautiful ladies sitting there, I couldn't resist the temptation to take one home.

Yesterday, I received two 375ml's of WT101/8yo in a trade with another forum member. Not quite ready to open one yet, working on clearing out some other open bottles first.

Unfortunately, the Twenty-First Amendment which repealed Prohibition, gives the staes free rein:

"Section 2. The transportation or importation into any State, Territory, or possession of the United States for delivery or use therein of intoxicating liquors, in violation of the laws thereof, is hereby prohibited."

Thanks for the info. I had forgotten about that section. Oh well. Ignorance of the law is an excuse right?

That and "I'll never do it again, honest!"
