$20 is excellent!

Also, I've been curious about the Saz Jr. any thoughts? For rye's I've mostly been drinking Ritt BIB, WTRye, Handy and Saz18 or RVWRye if I can get my hands on it of course. Also, have you tried the new R-i or whatever it's called?

James, I've had all of those -- the Saz Jr. is totally worthy & is basically the Handy diluted to 90 proof. I think this tends to accentuate the rye characteristic, but it's a great drink and priced just right at between $20-25. It can be a little light, especially compared to the WT Rye, which would easily be my choice for an everyday rye if I could easily find it, which I can't. I've had drinks from other people's bottles of the Ritt BIB and really liked it, but the two bottles I bought this year were very pine-y and I did not enjoy either of them much -- it will be a while before I revisit this. The ri1 was a very serviceable but unremarkable rye whiskey (especially for a change of pace) that I think would be great if it was priced similarly to the Saz -- unfortunately, it is twice the price and I can't pay that much for it.

The Van Winkle Rye is amazing and probably the best rye I've ever had, followed by the Handy which I love almost as much (especially the '08). If you like the Handy, you should like the Saz Jr.

I returned my bottles this afternoon and got $28 dollars back, which was just enough to pick up a EWSB 99! I really wanted to get an EC12 for $9 less and maybe put that $9 toward another bottle, but EC12, once my favorite, has burned me a lot lately with musty bottles that suck. I had to pass. I'm starting to see EC12 bottles with a new hang tag, too -- don't know if that indicates anything.

Thanks for the info, I will certainly pick some Saz jr. up for a try. The EC12 is really not my bag. I was really not happy with my bottle. I've seen them in RI for $16 and left them on the shelf.

How's that EWSB?

I've had a few "bad bottles" of EC12 that were musty, tannic or just plain rotten tasting. I've also had bottles of EC12 that I thought were fantastic. The one bottle of EWSB (it was a '98) I had, tasted very much like the good bottles of EC12, IMO.

Not today but over the weekend. In addition to finishing the fall yard work and watching bad football on both Saturday and Sunday, I found time to purchase a JRPS batch 4, a PVW15 for the bunker, a WLW 2009 and GTS 2009 (both at $70+tax ouch).

Now to find some time to discover their merits.

I am in Minnesota for a week and some visiting my girl, needed something and found (very rare) Old Heaven Hill 8 Year Old 86 proof for $9.99 a Liter!

Not trying to be a fortune teller here, but those of you living in the area with this available should probably stock up on this little diamond in the rough. - The 10 year is gone, EW Black has lost it's Age Statement, how long can this remain an 8 year I wonder - It isn't quite as good as the VROHH 10 BiB was, but it is definitely better than most bourbon twice it's price.

I wonder if she'll thinks it weird if I store a case of this in her new garage when we get her moved...?

Fedex delivered a couple bottles of Weller 09 BTAC today. I paid more than in years past, but my options are limited to places that will ship. I know some BTAC works through the Oregon control system, but I've seen very few bottles at retail over the years.

134 proof for a wheater! ...interested to try it.

In the past week I have picked up:

EWSB 97

OFBB 06

WTRB snazzy gift pack with wooden box and funky looking glasses

I was actually looking for (gasp) a Scotch this week, but I couldn't find the one I was looking for. Not a regular Scotch drinker but I do like to jump back in from time to time, just for the hell of it.

WT101 gift set. That's the 750ml bottle plus a stainless steel hip flask with velvet cover, all for $15.99.

I grabbed a(nother) JB Distillers Series 7yr 90 proofer.

It is really Beam's best bang for the buck and gets quite creamy with a few shards of ice.

besides the OGDs... this is JBs best. IMO. for the $.

I have really dug on the JBDS, too. I have other Beams I enjoy more (OGD 114 & Baker's), but it is a very nice pour for the money.

I love the OGD 114 but it doesn't seem to have the age, but the intensity of flavor is f-ing rad.

I think you might have been the original man to motivate me back to OGD with yr 'burnt brownie pan' comments. :)

and, yeah, Bakers is great, but the bang for the buck, the value pour from JB is JBDS90.

Cheers.

OGD114 is one of my favorites. I like OGDBIB as well, as I always have a handle around. I sure wish it still had that cool contour bottle. That one sure was comfy.

Other than those 2, I don't buy much else from JB. We go through quite a lot of the OGDBIB around here.

Didn't purchase, but received in trade, an 09 BTAC ER 17. One more BTAC for the shelf. Joe

Got a package yesterday from a fellow member containing a Parker's Heritage 127 proof. I haven't had any of this offering so I look forward to expanding my pallet.

That stuff is phenomenal. Been picking up bottles at a place in Delaware for $61. Most other places wanted over 70.

There is one bottle of this left at my Binny's and I have debated on picking it up a couple times...it's 79.99 though so that has me gun shy as I've never had any of the Parker's expressions. Let us know what you think once you get it open! ;)

Reloaded an OGD 114 on the way home from a long, long, day. The plastic safety wrap was pulled and tossed (ziiiip, crinkle, whoosh), that big 'ol cork was pulled (Thwomp!), an ounce or so of liquid was poured (gug, gug, gug, gug, gug) and the beautiful liquid was flowing down my hatch (siiiip, gulp, ahhhh!) within 11.729 seconds of walking in my door at home. Thanks, Gramps! The day gotta whole lot better.
