callmeox
While on a personal mule junket, a fellow SB'er snagged a faux tax stamped UD UPC handle of '89 Rebel Yell for me for a song. I'm looking forward to cracking this one open.I had a fake ID when I was in college in the mid-80's and I used to snag a bottle of Beam for myself every couple of weeks. One of my buddies would ask me to grab him some Rebel Yell when I went to the state store and I would never try it since it seemed like such a cheesy name for a beverage to me. It just sounded like cheap crap.If I only knew then what I know now.
SMOWK
Reloaded an OGD 114 on the way home from a long, long, day. The plastic safety wrap was pulled and tossed (ziiiip, crinkle, whoosh), that big 'ol cork was pulled (Thwomp!), an ounce or so of liquid was poured (gug, gug, gug, gug, gug) and the beautiful liquid was flowing down my hatch (siiiip, gulp, ahhhh!) within 11.729 seconds of walking in my door at home. Thanks, Gramps! The day gotta whole lot better.
hectic1
I picked up these today from Binny's! 1 PVW 15 2 GTS 2009 I had a Corned Beef and Pastrami from Manny's before heading over to Binny's! I also did some tasting at the South Loop Binny's with Lost Pollito...I had pours of OF BIB SW, IW Harper, AAA, and WLW 2009! I have to say the Old Fitz BIB was my favorite of the bunch...that SW stuff is stupid good!
independant
Was on the other side of town today so I thought I would check the other ABC stores for the new bowman bottles and came away with a handle of EWB and a EWSB 99 in a gift set with a barrel shaped flask. Gillman
I didn't buy this but my friend Gary Hodder did and it is a winner: Jim Beam Rye. I was surprised at how good-tasting and generous a drink this was. I recall it as feisty, almost grappa-like but this current iteration is well-modulated and an excellent buy. Overholt and even Ri (the new more costly Beam rye) share the typical Beam profile (noticeable amongst most of the bourbon range too) but Jim Beam Rye (the current buff label) seems a departure. Has it changed or was it a lucky bottle? I will definitely buy this soon.Gary
BBQ+Bourbon
The BTAC is drying up rapidly in KC so I grabbed one more GTS for me, and for the west coaster, one GTS, one Saz, and a Woodford Super-Duper Oak or whatever it's called. This is one that piques my curiosity, but it would have to be mighty good to justify the $81 price tag.I also scored the last OWA 1/2 bottle from 03. There were several more last weekend but a friend of mine is competing for these. I told the store owner to order these four at a time until they no longer come in with 03 on the bottom. Who knows how deep this well goes? I know this is far better than the 07+ bottles and for $10 each, I'll buy as many as they can get. The current OWA had me questioning whether I really loved this stuff, but my faith is renewed!

funknik
Although I've heard they're not great I picked up two light-topped WTKS today. I was only going to pick up the one, but when I looked all the info on these were the same except one was from barrel #28 & the other barrel #29. I'm definitely going to do a future side-by-side with these.I was getting bored with the selection around here an I only know one place tht has this stuff, so I killed my boredom. I was glad I did -- one bottle looked slightly darker (#28), but I opened the other one first -- it is delicious! Downright awesome.

Vosgar
Because of all the great comments on OGD 114, I had to buy a bottle earlier this week. After having a taste, I'm going to have to buy more. Wonderful stuff!

MarkEdwards
How does that stuff compare to home-made eggnog? (I keep kosher so I'll never know...)I don't know. This is the first season I've had alcoholic eggnog, and I wanted to try the pre-made products. I may yet get around to making homemade, but not so far. gblick
With Randy's haul of Wild Turkey Tributes last week, I just had to go find me one before they are all gone. Along with the Tribute, I also picked up a Van Winkle Family Reserve Rye 13yo. This is the first time I've bought either of these bottles. Stopped in another store afterwards for a peek and found some WTRR101.
