EC 12 before dinner and JDSS after yesterday. The JD tasted awesome as usual but the EC didn’t hit the spot at all this particular evening. It had bunches of eucalyptus that killed all other flavours. I don’t know if it got anything to do with it, but it was very close to the bottom of the bottle. In other cases it just has to be caused of my personal “shape of the dayâ€.

OT 86 before I went out to grill, Pappy 15 while outside grilling and with the pork chops. I am not sure where I will go next but I'll let you know!

I can see the Forester for the trees

Straight Old Forester evening:

Old Forester Birthday Bourbon 2007

Old Forester Signature

Old Forester 75th Anniversary of the Repeal

That is the order of preference. However, Signature has got to be the best value bourbon out there.

Picked up a plain old Evan Williams black label over the weekend. Sipping on it again this evening. It's been enjoyable since I cracked it last Friday. If I can offer any bright beacon of hope to those that believe that OWA 107 dropping the 7 yr age statement means that it's goin' to pot......Well, EW dropping the 7 yr AS from this bottling a couple of years ago didn't hurt this pup one bit. It is STILL an extremely pleasant pour. Honestly, I taste no downgrade at all.

The OFS is certainly among the very best value bourbons out there. I always have a 1.75L bottle on hand and everyone who tries it seems to really like it. Not sure what else is available in your area, but the Very Old Barton 90 proof or BiB is extraordinarily good (regardless of the price) and can be had for around $12 at Binny's--a real steal!

Well, the kid shoved off to California today to begin his Americorps service so it is oddly quiet around here for the first time in a long time. I'm relaxing with a pour of the Curtis/Hightower FRSB and Uncle Buck on the tube.

What your son is doing is pretty cool, Scott. Good on him. Better on you. Well done. I toast you both with a McScrooges FRSB.

:toast:

Thanks, man. He was wait listed last May and his name finally bubbled to the top this past Friday. It was a whirlwind 5 days getting him ready, but we got it done. We'll miss him like crazy, but it is a great opportunity for him. I'm jealous that someone didn't think of Americorps way back when.

A splash of 4R 120th to complete the evening.

Wow! You still have some McScrooges 4R1B?

That was about the best bottle of 4R's I have ever had, still dream of it.

That makes sense. I get red-hots in rye's so I guess it's the high rye mash your picking up.

I did have KG from 1970 before dinner yesterday, Dickel 9 with the lime truffles for dessert and Rittenhouse BIB late at night. My normal choice to this truffles are Dickel 12 but I am drained out and it’s hard to find replacement right now. I have tried JDSS but it didn’t work out at all, but Dickel 8 was a acceptably replacement. The BIB really grows on me every time I taste it. I did have a pour out of a bottle at a fiends house, home had bought it in New York and we both found it to be a bit rough. This bottle is defiantly not rough at all but only flavourful and pleasant.
