TNbourbon
Evan Williams 1783 10yo used to be one of those handful of whiskeys I ALWAYS bought when I traveled to Kentucky. Some have become available locally, some -- including the age-stated 1783 -- have gone defunct, almost so that there is no whiskey advantage to going to Kentucky anymore!Still, when I stopped to buy a straight rye with which to cook my turkey for Thanksgiving the other say, I was allured by the $10.99 price tag of the now "#10 Brand" EW 1783. I've got to say, I'm pleasantly surprised. It's obviously not as old as the original, but the taste profile still is of a quality bourbon, though certainly not as old. At 86 proof, it is the equivalent of EW Black. I've gone through the bottle in three days -- I'm completely off work for a 5-day weekend, yet that's about as fast as I go through a 750ml bottle -- so will re-buy.Bottom line, it will join the price-point rotation with Evan Williams Green and Black as the house 'well' bourbon.I'm satisfied that it has not been substantially degraded beyond what is natural from a pull-back from a 10yo age statement. smokinjoe
I wish we could stop considering that particular criterion.:hot:Yes, I know where you're coming from Tim. Sometimes, economics and supply have to prevail, though. But, I am very secure in believing that Parker, Craig, Jimmy, Fred, etc. will still be able to put out terrific bottlings, regardless. To be honest, I really haven't been too disappointed in any "age down", yet. These fellers know what they're doin'.

Had some Thanksgiving leftovers, (munchies, deserts and what not) then we played some cards. Drinking was also involved. :skep: ETL, ERSB, JBB, BT, MM, and 94 EWSB. It was a great night. A fun time was had by all. Joe

OGD 114 on the buss, WT 8 from the pocket bottle watching the show and OGD 114 again on the buss back home. Nice evening!Leif

I sure glad I bunkered a number of these in the past year...they're getting harder and harder to leave bunkered though as this is quickly becoming a favorite pour of mine! SMOWK
Started with Wathen's...I've got a bottle I've been nursing for a while that I'm not all that happy with. I really think it has to do with all the good stuff next to it. It's definitely not bad, but comparing it to what I've been able to come across lately, it just doesn't have the mmmmmmmmmph. Josh
Having a pour of Weller SR.Upon return to Michigan from the old country, I noticed that my kitchen faucet was leaking yet again and I pulled all my wet liquor bottles out from under the sink.:smiley_acbt: I chose to drown my sorrows in two solid lower shelf HHs, Old Fitz BiB and then HH BiB White label. Tonight at Amy's dinner party? Who knows?
ggilbertva
I had two similar pours today. Right now I'm enjoying an 8 yr Old Fitz BIB, distilled '72. Earlier I made a bourbon cake using a recipe about 100 years old. After baking at 275 for 3.5 hrs, I basted the cake with a '91 Old Fitz Prime (while sipping some at the same time) and then poured the remaining over the top. The cake will be wrapped in foil and then once a week brought out, re-basted and doused and wrapped back up again. This will be brought out and served on Dec 12th at a local bourbon themed gathering. Can't wait!! :yum:

unclebunk
Just about knocked off the last of my 2007 Thomas Handy but left a little in the bottle and switched over to VWFRR. Both are fantastic! I'll be bummed when that last pour of Handy goes down tonight but I can honestly say that that bottle gave me more pleasure over the course of several months than almost any bottle I've ever owned. SMOWK
WTRyeThis one is about to move to the Empty Bottle Support Group. After that, probably some Handy to compare. I really like the WTRye.
SMOWK
WOW! I went from the WTRye to RittBIB and then on to the Handy. In that order, I REALLY LIKE EACH. For one, I've always loved WTRye. The RittBIB was always hit or miss for me, even from the same bottle. The Handy, always good, but sometimes a little overpowering. In this order though, they all shone/shined brightly. I really like the soft peppermint flavor of the WTRye. Moving to the Ritt I get a much thicker peppery/maple flavor. It's still rye, but it seems much closer to bourbon. The Handy on the other hand....EXTRA clovey, peppery, minty, maple'y goodness. I'm really glad I have more of the Handy to explore in the future. I really think the first half of the first bottle went down with a bit of dumbfoundedness. I had no idea how to take it. In other words:I'M LEARNING...AND I'M LOVING EVERY MINUTE OF IT.
