Enjoyed an afternoon/evening get together with a friend so we lined up the bottles for some tasting:

ORVW 15 yr Single Barrel

'91 WT 80 pf

'82 Jim Beam White

'60s vintage OT 86pf

'02 Stagg

'91 Bourbon DeLuxe

...and a smattering of other things.

The 2002 Stagg is the only one I haven’t tasted Greg. Is it really better than the rest, or is that only a nostalgic roomer?

Rittenhouse bib before dinner last night and ORVWFRR K, Fitzgerald 1849 from 73 and OGD 114 after. The Beam brand seemed to hit the spot best yesterday.

Leif,

In head to head, 02-08 stack, it was consistently 3rd to 4th behind the 03, 04 and the KY only 05

It is very good, great really, but its down to just a sliver of difference between 1 through 4 in tasting rank. I think there is more separation behind those 4.

Willett Family Estate Bottled Single Barrel

Bottle No. 68 of 168

17 Years Old

97.2 Proof

Barrel Strength,...

...and of course, neat.

Yeah that's right, it came out of the barrel after 17 years at 97.2 proof.

OK my Brothers, this is an interesting bottle of whiskey I got here.

The nose says Heaven Hill peppermint rye.

The taste says Wild Turkey oaky/char.

Who did Drew score this barrel from?

BTW, it was selected for The Party Source, they have more and they are shipping now but not to MI.

So I gotta give some big props to John aka jburlowski.

Dickel ch and 12 before dinner, JDSS with the dessert and old 101 from 1977 and handy 2009 later. The uncut rye did catch the spot best tonight,

Leif,

I haven't done a head to head as Emerald has so it's hard to compare to other releases. I will say it was an outstanding pour. Stagg is consistently good year over year and the '02 is one I wish I had in the the bunker, but alas, I must mooch off my friend to enjoy that one.

Was at a bar tonight, meeting with one of the guys from Hard Times distillery, discussing my vision for Oregon Whiskey. Ordered a glass of PVW 20 ($20), which I've never had.

Always kinda suspected I'd find it too woody. It wasn't. Damn, now I want to buy a bottle. OR price is $101, which is more than I've ever spent on a bottle of booze.

Decisions, decisions.

This last week has been a busy one, and this evening we finally got the keys to our new house! I dug a bottle of WTKS out of the truck and poured some in celebration.

Aged for 17 years and barrel proof of 97.2 it must have been aged on the bottom floors of the warehouse? How good is this? It sounds good.

I've heard so much about VOB BIB in this forum that I've gone to great lengths to get my local distributor to get some. They said they could only "special order" it. Just so I didn't have to go through this again for a while, I ordered a 12 pack. At $103, I don't think I'll be disappointed. But If I am, there will be some damn near free bottles of VOB BIB for "sale".

About this Willett 17yo 97.2prf.

Emerald is right, it does a quick disappearing act at the end.

But it's a very good 2 out of 3.

Birdman = Scott :-)

Interesting notes on the 17yo. I'm having some 3yo now and it's kind of the opposite. Turkey nose with the HH peppermint taste. Thankfully this one has a nice finish too.

The last small pour from a Binny's Weller 12 bottle...those bottles seem to go faster then the others for some reason.

Continuing the Binny's hand-picked trend, I've been enjoying a bottle of their Four Roses Single Barrel (OBSK). It's right up my alley, whether taken neat, with a bit of water, over ice, or in a Manhattan.

Thanks for the help, Jeff !!! Oscar's eyesight isn't what it used to be.:slappin:

Are you talking about the 3 yr from Bloomington or from the Party Source? I have some of the Bloomington Willett. Best 3 yr old Bourbon I ever had !!!

Having just finished a little VOB, I'm sure you won't be disappointed. Especially at $103 for 12 bottles! Nice price.

Let me be the second to offer a home for any that don't meet your expectations.

Starting with some Ritt BIB tonight. I'm thinking of following that with some Saz 18 2009, RVWFRR 13yr, and then Handy '09 to end the evening.
