Tonight it has been Blantons. It tends to sit on the shelf and I forget about it. Then I'm always surprised at how good it is. This is one of the Bourbons that started me on this journey and it still works.

Finished an entire bottle of EWSB2000 with my father this evening with dinner. Since moved onto....looks like a good 1/3 bottle of OGD114. I should stop. mmmmmm...OGD114.

I agree with that. I have always enjoyed Blantons. and it is usually available at most nice bars. My only knock on it is the price. At $35- $40, it would be a staple in my bunker !!!

Are you talking about the 3 yr from Bloomington or from the Party Source? I have some of the Bloomington Willett. Best 3 yr old Bourbon I ever had !!!

I got this in Indy, but it's probably the same as Bloomington (Barrel 1369).

Something I noticed this morning about this bourbon is you can leave 1/4 inch in the bottom of the glass overnight and have it taste just as good, if not better, after sitting out 12 hours. It smelled great and had the same color/clarity as the night before, so I just had to try a sip!

I did have OGD 114 and Rittenhouse bib before dinner yesterday. Then Stagg and Handy 2009 after. All tasted good but the 2 uncut were the best for sure. I think I need something really strong and flavourful to cope with this ridicules hard winter we got here this year.

Last night was martini night for our small gathering, so to move on after the Martinis and Aviations, I decided to open the Elmer T. Lee this afternoon after vacuuming the house and cleaning the oven.

Sweet sweet nectar.

Afternoon delight has been:

Buffalo Trace

OGD BIB

Last night I followed BT with Saz Jr and the house flavor really came through. These two bottles are pretty close in that the Saz just seemed like a spicer version of the BT, well less grass too.

Lot B, in a Reidel, neat. This stuff never ceases to amaze me at such a low proof. I'd love to try some higher of the same juice, as 90 proof usually doesn't do it for me, and this one really does. I can only imagine the niceness over 110.

Like Greg I took some time off from drinking any bourbon this past week. Tonight I'm having a couple pours of Binny's ETL while watching the USA/Canada hockey game and I have to say that I like this bottling better then the ETL 90th! The Binny's bottling is a little sweeter on entry with more caramel and vanilla where the ETL 90th has more green apples and pears.

Took a couple days off from drinking.

Same here. My back went out on me and no sense trying to enjoy a pour while wincing in pain. But I'm back tonight (couldn't resist that) and blinding Old Fitz BIB, a 1987 DSP 16 versus a 2001 DSP 1. On the nose alone, just enough of a very slight difference that I picked the DSP 16 correctly on three tries. Then purposefully not nosing the glass but just tasting, I preferred the DSP 1 and of course thought it was the DSP 16.

having a small pour of Weller Centennial (small is all I can afford with the lonely bottle I have!) while cooking and unpacking boxes. Maybe We'll open a bottle of wine tonight...

I hosted an American Whiskey tasting with some friends and co-workers. (who were generally not whiskey drinkers). Everyone gave me $25-30, I bought 10 bottles that averaged out to about $25-30, we tried them all, and everyone took home a bottle. We tasted: BT, Baby Saz, Templeton Rye, Maker's, Old Weller 107, EW Black, EW SB 2000, WT101, 4Roses SB, and Elijah Craig 12. People had different tastes; there was not a consensus favorite. People were surprised that they liked WT101, everyone winced when I brought that out. The people who liked maker's really liked OWA.

I took home the 4Roses SB and after a few nights w/ it have not been impressed. I've had bottles before and loved it. I'm going to give it a couple of weeks and come back to it. Last night I had a pour of GTS to see if I had just lost my taste temporarily, which happens (especially b/c I have allergy and sinus problems), but nope, the GTS slapped me upside the head with flavor.

This has been my experience lately. The last bottle I really didn't care for. I've got another in the bunker waiting for a day I feel like giving it another go.

Good job on the tasting event. WT 101 gets a bad rap as a slam down get wasted whiskey, when it is really a very fine sipping bourbon. OWA is really a better bourbon and better buy than MM most people are surprised by that.

A lot of people think the bottle of WT101 is out of place when they see the others on my shelf. They all come around though after comparing.

Hear Hear! OWA is head and shoulders above MM!

Yeah, its not bad, it just lacks some punch. I don't get a lot on the nose, and although it tastes ok, its a bit thin. It lacks the flavor I expect from something of that price, quality, and distillery. I have a bottle of 4 Roses SB Barrel proof I haven't opened yet, I will have to compare. I guess that's the risk/reward with single barrels.

FRSB OSEO before dinner and OGD 114 after. I defiantly preferred the Beam bottle despite costing far less than half.

My thoughts exactly. It wasn't bad at all. It just didn't have a WOW factor. I'd really like to try one of the barrel proofers, but I really doubt I'd shell out the money when I could add to my collection of BTAC or PHC barrel proofers.

I was going to repsond to this but I'm sure everybody knows by now what I would say about the 4R Barrel Proof offerings.

As for me I just made some bbq sauce for the spare ribs in the slow cooker tonight. I put some Dickel No. 8 in there and now I'm putting some in my belly.

I've definitely noticed. If I see one on a shelf, I'll pick it up and give it a try in your honor. My expectations may be too high from all of this, so I'll try to be conscious of that if/when I see one.

What's the usual shelf price on these?

If memory serves, $55 for private bottling SBBS, $60 for 2009 SBBS, $65 for Mariage. 'Naptown prices.
