Yeah, today was most definitely a Monday. Rainy, and all. This Rock Hill Farms is a good start to making things a little better.

Today was a rough day...my grandmother passed away that the age of 91. I was given a bottle of 1962 OGD BIB when my grandfather passed in 2007 so I had my first pour from the bottle tonight in honor of them. I will miss her very much! :(

Working late on business financials so figured I would indulge in a '79 Early Times KSBW at the same time.

I am grilling on my brand new big green egg, so I decided I'd pour myself some Wild Turkey 8 year export. That was delicious, and right now I'm having a small amount of Four Roses Mariage 2008. I know it might go against the grain, but this is my favorite Four Roses product. ever. Hopefully the Ribeyes turn out okay, I'm just now figuring out how to use this thing (not that it's hard)!

Sorry to hear it, Bob. I enjoyed the sip from your grandfather's bottle very much tonight. I wish there were more I could do. :( I know you will keep her memory alive.

Starting a bit early tonight... so I hit the dusty shelf.

I've been comparing some:

AA 38 month old 80 proofer

Old Charter 10 86 proof from 93

Old Charter 7 80 proof from 92

J W Dant BIB from late 80's

Without a doubt the Dant is superior

Next would be the smoothness of the Old Charter 10

from there it is a too up with the AA and the OC 7

I need to throw in the Benchmark from 1978 and the Old Taylor BIB 9 yr BIB from 81 and see how they stack up

but I need food first !!!!

My thoughts are with you Bob. I'm very sorry for your loss. I'm having a pour of RY at the moment, but I promise something better later on tonight as a toast to your grandmother. Joe

Overholt 1981 from OGD before dinner, Rittenhouse BIB between starter and main meal and Weller 7/90 with the dessert. It was a long time since I had the granddad vision of Overholt and it was all the way as good as I did remember.

It was another Yamazaki 12 followed by a BT regular. Anyone that follows this thread is probably sick of seeing me write "Yamazaki" but I would encourage you to try it.

It has a nice proof at 86 and is mildly sweet. A bit flowery with a fantastic finish and an excellent viscous mouth feel. Much closer to bourbon than scotch even though it's listed as a single malt on the bottle.

Wild Turkey Kentucky Spirit, neat.

This is a bottle that I got at the WT Gift Shop last Summer.

Jimmy Russell just happen to be there and signed the bottle for me.

It was bottled January 9, 2009 and has a sticker on the back that states;

"This bottle has been specially selected by Master Distiller, Jimmy Russell, for sale at the Visitor Center at the Wild Turkey Distillery, Lawrenceburg, Kentucky."

Nose: cherry/alcohol

Taste: cocoa/peppermint

Aftertaste: pleasant ('bout all I can say)

Overall: I miss the famous WT char in this one, also seems a tad to young

Last night was EC12 before dinner. Opened a new bottle and apparently got a very good batch. Good juice. Thanks Oscar.

After dinner a new interest - Armagnac. Delord 25yr. A lot of Bourbons could learn a thing or two from this finish.

Then a couple of healthy pours of Willett 6yr Green Top. A very good barrel IMVHO.

Had some JTS Brown BIB picked up in KY at the festival last fall for the 2nd night in a row. This is a really nice pour, a lot of flavor, a little bit of heat but nothing over bearing. Has that wood flavor that I seem to pick up when drinking other HH products that I enjoy. Others have enjoyed this on the boards, and I would like to say thank you for giving it some good pub to have me pick up a bottle.

When factoring it was $10, I will definitely be bringing back more than 1 my next trip to KY.

I did have Overholt from 1981and EC 12 before dinner yesterday and a WTKS from 2007 after. The KS were the best I ever had of that brand it had an enormous vanilla flavour in the nose and taste despite not being that heavy in general.

I've been dipping into a recently acquired WTKS Pewter (11/98) the last couple of nights. I've been leaving each session with the idea that "it can't be this good". I've been thinking about it this afternoon, so just decided to sneak a nip. It is that good. It continues to be spectacular. I don't have a Tribute open currently, so I can't compare head-to-head. But, even though Tribute is my favorite Turkey....I honestly don't remember it being this good.

It's been a particularly crappy week at work...

Enjoyed a Party Source Willett SB 13 yo, 113 proof; followed by a FR 2009LE SB (love that classic FR fruity, wheaty yeast); and ending with the Party Source-selected EWSB 2000 (damn, I've got to bunker a couple of these suckers!)

I think I can make it through Friday....

My taste runs the gamut, though I like few rye whiskeys. However, the one that I keep coming back to, that continues to impress me is 06 OFBB. I've heard very little of this bottle on the board, but it's in the top bourbons I have had. Thankfully, I should have another on the way soon. This is some really great juice.

Wish we lived a little closer John. Maybe we could commiserate together. Not that I had a bad week, it was just....... well, shall we say, different. :skep:

I'm having a pour/pours of ERSB. In my infatuation with Weller lately, I haven't had this in quite a while. Now I know why I have three bottles in the bunker. I forgot how tasty this was. This bottle may not last too long. Joe
