That's a damn shame.

On a more positive note, I grabbed a liter of Old Fitz BIB circa 1988 and a handle of Old Forester BIB also from the 80's

Bob, I heard about this last night in chat, but even now my eyes are filling up as I type this. My condolences...:(

oooowwwccchh, Oh man that hurts! And when you were packing it sounded like you used half the bubble wrap in Houston so they were probably packed well.

Did they deliver anything? or did you just get a notice saying the package was destroyed? I can't imagine how ALL the 375's got broken.

At least the ETL Gold Wax made it.

That's some nice juice. Let us know what you think about it after you've had tonight's pour(s). I thoroughly enjoyed my bottle but haven't been able to find one since!

the Wathen's was excellent. bit of an apple aroma and a sort of buttery richness. not harsh in the mouth at all, but left a little burn in the chest. adding a few drops of water took care of that. definitely one of the better bourbons ive had.

i may go back and grab the other two bottles. i just wont tell the Mrs.

nope...they kept the entire box telling me that all contents had been destroyed!

I've shipped enough bottles in my day to know that I used more then enough bubble wrap as well as they were double boxed with the inner box being protected with peanuts, newspaper, and bubble wrap. I could see on top breaking or something but not all 9 bottles being crushed! :hot:

Oh well...lesson learned. No more hunting for me if I can't carry it home in my luggage.:(

I try not to ship anything anymore. I've only had one bad experience shipping bottles and try not to do it anymore. FedEx tracking showed it was "on the truck for delivery" when something broke. Sounded fishy to me. They destroyed everything. As a contrast to that, I had some Michters decanters shipped to me when one was broken. USPS just wrapped the whole, wet box in plastic and delivered the leaking mess to my door anyway.

Current TSA regs state you can check as baggage up to 5 liters of alcohol under 140 proof. So essentially 6 750's can be checked as luggage. That's what I do now when traveling. Obviously you had much more than that.

You never heard anything from them regarding shipping liquor through USPS? I always ship through UPS or FedEx . I assumed that the USPS would get pretty mad about shipping liquor since they always ask if there is liquid in the package.

Not Bourbon but I was gifted a bottle of Chivas Regal 12yr bottled in '57 (I think) today. It's beyond dusty... more like encrusted. Tax stamp and strip are almost deteriorated away. Paper labels are brittle with age. This should be fun to pull out when a Scotch lightweight comes to visit.

I got a $50 Binny's GC for my birthday so I had to spend it...I added another $40 and came home with a WT Tradition. ;) I tried it on the table at Randy's G2G and I knew that it would only be a matter of time until I caved...

Pretty good couple of days.

Yesterday I took possession of an Old Charter Proprietor's Louisville, the "slope shoulder" bottle.

And today I gots me another Holy Grail, a 1995 Wild Turkey Kentucky Spirit.

It was well traveled, from Lawrenceburg to Texas to Michigan to Ohio to Michigan.

Grrrr, Rufff! MI Bourbon Dog ACDetroit treats me better than I do myself.

In the last week I've snagged 4 bottles of the Four Roses 100th Anniversary Single Barrel and a pair each of ETL gold wax and WTRR 10/101.

Some things you just need to grab when opportunity knocks.

Made a trip to DC this weekend for a concert. Scored a Willett 17yr 145.x proofer for a hundred bucks. Had to put a 09WLW back on the shelf for it, but I thought it was worth the extra money for the Willett, as I've got a few 09WLWs already.

Anybody happen to have any more info on the bottling?

Is it a Dougz and Willyz bottling? White wax? Post the barrel info for clarification.

JW DANT BIB

Willett Family Pot Still Reserve (had to have the bottle, it is cool)

Evan Williams 1783

My current friends seem to think I may have a problem. 2 months ago, I was more of a buy a bottle, drink a bottle type of person. Somehow that has changed. Prior to this trip I'm on, I had about 13 bottles sitting on the bar (all bourbon of course). They looked at that and just shook their heads. I cant imagine what they will say when I return and add another 7+ bottles to the bar. Maybe I need new friends?

I bought a lot in Houston...unfortunately about a third of it got broken by go old FedEx in transit...:(

While I'm excited for what made it here I'm sick to my stomach at what was lost...2 handles of NO ER101, 1 handle of 2000 W12, 5 375's of Louisville OWA 95, 1 RR101, and 1 OGD 86 Proof 8 year 1989.

The box in question was delivered back to my house (the sender) today. Some good news - all the 375's of OWA are fine, also in box intact is 1 handle of ER 101 and handle Weller 12. The Weller 12 label is a little soggy. Also, foam peanuts become a sticky mess when covered in bourbon.

So, gone is 1 handle of ER 101, 1 RR101, and 1 OGD. Still bad, but nowhere near as bad as complete loss. Of the entire box - the OWA Louisville 375's would be the only thing I would cry about and they survived:cool:

That's encouraging news and Bob can quit drowning his sorrows. Just pack it up and ship it back UPS. By the way what did the box look like? what did they do to it? Run over it with a fork lift?

Box looked OK - bottom had some stains from being wet. They had somewhat repacked placing in plastic garbage bag and adding some cardboard packing material.

What is it with the NO ER101?

I had a bottle of that with a loose from the distillery cap in my rental a few year's back that managed to roll around on its side and spill half its contents in the trunk. Sweetest, oakiest smelling rental I've had, but I'm glad I didn't get pulled over on that trip...

I had pretty much given up on finding anything unusual at the Virginia ABC stores, but it ended up being a surprising weekend for me. On Friday I stopped into one near me looking to pick up a couple of bottles of The Fox since it's not being made any more. I found out that VABC also has WTKS on closeout. On the back of the shelf I saw one dark top among all the light ones, so I decided to pick that up. It's only from 2006, but it's a start on the road to searching for older ones and the first WTKS I've purchased.

Encouraged by that experience, I stopped in another store while I was running around and found two bottles of Sazerac 18 on the shelf. Since I'm still new to all the variety, I debated whether to get them, but ultimately decided to liberate both bottles since they've been sitting somewhere for 9 years. Both bottles are Fall 2001 bottlings. I guess I can't give up hope on the VABC stores yet.
