Friend was in Japan, scored me a few things to which I am forever in his debt.

Attach function doesn't seem to be working to get a picture up but the list was something like VWFRR 1985, VWFRR First edition, EW Single Barrel for Whiskey Live at Barrel Proof, Kentucky Vintage 1974, Blue Wax Hirsch, and a Twisted Spoke 16/105.

NOW it is working.

Good stuff.

How do these fit into the VW Rye chronology?

Went in to see if the Makers 46 had arrived (was told end-July, early-August for Atlanta) and ended up with a 2008 Four Roses Mariage, signed by Jim Rutledge.

Buying bourbon is fun. Just when I thought I was spending a lot of money I went 'round to the scotch aisle and compared prices of things in my basket to the stuff in the locked glass cases. Put things in a lovely perspective!

I'm new, obviously, but having a great time. Today's purchases:

Buffalo Trace (1.75L) - this is my daily pour and whatever comes on my bourbon adventures, it will always be a favorite as it brought me home to bourbon.

W.L. Weller Reserve - since I like BT i'm guessing I may also like this one.

Evan Williams (Black Label) - I wanted to try something from the good folks at Heaven Hill so I decided to start with the basic product.

((I also picked up a 50ml "airline bottle" of Jack Daniels as I couldn't for the life of me remember what it tasted like (last had it in, oh, 1978?) and I wanted to be able to compare the giant of Tennessee whiskey to bourbon. The differences to me are remarkable.))

They also had some single-barrel Evan Williams from 1999 and 2000. I'm going to hunt for the reviews here and consider them to bring home.

Cordially,

Trace T.

Coincidentally, I just purchased a Blanton's Straight From The Barrel here in Calgary. It was $80 Ca, the cheapest I have ever seen it anywhere in the world (I've paid about $100 US in Europe). There is the complete lineup of Blanton's here.....even the 80 proofer. Of interest is that the Blanton's Gold at 103 proof was the most expensive at $90 Ca. Calgary is also well stocked with ORVW 10/90/107, 12yo, Pappy 20yo and 23yo.

Randy

Randy,

Is that the barrel proof Blanton's? If so Gulmohar's in St Maarten has it for about $40US. The gold is about $5 more.

Van Winkle 12 Lot B. For the family reunion. Which is apparently taking place in a 'dry' Christian family camp or something in Minnesota. Help me...

In case you were wondering why the flask was invented...

But I don't think I can bring myself to drink that out of a flask. I think I'm going to have to duck out of that place for an hour or four with my closest family members and enjoy.

If you don't hear from me again, I've been abducted. Somebody give my bourbon collection to someone who will enjoy it...

The bible thumping, hooch police are the worst. Take a bottle of cheap rotgut with you to use as a decoy so they dont confiscate/dump out/ruin your lot B. Everclear would be even better. You could set it on fire and tell them its the wrath of god if they take it!

That's funny that Gulmohar's still has it for that price. I picked mine up from them about 3 years ago at that price. I'll be visiting them again this Jan to replace my depleted Blanton's stash.

Sounds like another vacation is in order. The offset could pay for the ticket.

Bob I was kidding. I don't think they really found 6 cases, but if they actually did then I'll jump in surprise!
