Found a bottle of Thomas H. Handy last night and also picked up a bottle of Knob Creek 120.

While checking around for Pappy and Evan Williams eggnog (no luck yet on either one), I found and bought my first ever bottle of Saz 18 - the last one on the shelf, and grabbed a bottle of 2000 vintage Evan Williams to further spike the Evan Williams eggnog with when it finally hits the shelves.

The other day it was a bottle of Willett 4yr rye and a store bottling of '11 EWSB.

After picking up the EWSB I asked my guy what his thoughts were on the bottle. I knew he wouldn't bad mouth it, but was interested in his tasting thoughts.

He said he hadn't had had a sample of it yet, since they just had got it in. Then he said, "Well, we could open that one for a sample?" It was lovely.

Plus, he came to the register and gave me a discount. Double score! I joked with him that they need to give me a VIP card or something so that they can do the discounting more often at the register. "Hmm, since you are a good customer, we could open you a account to get that all the time."

What a night!

Again, this is why you need to work in developing that relationship with your store staff, I know it's been said by many on the board numerous times, and always bears repeating. Good things come from it.

Picked up via trade 2 liters of 1995 Louisville Weller Special Reserve and a BHC Very Special Old Fitzgerald 12yr. I love my wheaters!

Visited the Clearview Liquor store and learned that they have their own bottles of Buffalo Trace that they bottled as single barrel. That was a nice surprise so I picked up a couple. I will have to do a little side by side to see if I can notice much of a difference with the regular Buffalo Trace.

Sweet Mother of Jesus I love eBay!!!

No BTAC collection for me this year because a retailer F'ed me over after kissing his ass for over a year.

But eBay to the rescue! The UPS guy just dropped off a 2011 WLarueW.

Q: Did I over pay?

A: Heck no, you ever try to drink cash, it don't work.

I was able to order a George T. Stagg from the Party Source along with a bottle of Abraham Bowman Bourbon. They should arrive in a couple of days.

This will be the first bottle from the BTAC I have ever had.

Well yesterday I grabbed a bottle of Garrison Brothers, while I was in San Antonio. Cant wait to try it. Funny thing was that it was hidden in the back of Specs in the premium room and not on the shelf. I would think that an up and coming local distiller would be prominantly displayed, or at least displayed on the shelf. The bottle has all the characteristics of a premium bottle, age statement, grain info distill date, bottle date, even a pretty wax seal and a high price tag.

I am afraid that it will be hard to compete in the premium market with a 2yo product, I just dont think the clients that go to that room should be the ones targeted to purchase this new product.

Also, any DC area SB'ers want to give this a try just PM me.

The AE and VOB came down from Kentucky with family over the weekend. The Blanton's was an intentional purchase but the FR1B LE 2011 was a brain fart (already have one, had the SB LE 2011 in mind).

One WLW and two Handy's @$60 per bottle minus 10%.

Having a good relationship with your store does pay off.

Store just got the allotment in the morning. It's nice to walk in and have them say, "i've got some bottles for you."

Everything that they had was pretty much allocated out already. They got a case of WLW, Stagg, ER17 and Saz18, but like 3 cases of Handy. Go figure.

Well, I was tempted by the $29.99 price tag that my local guy had on the Basil Hayden's. Been a long time since this one landed in my shopping cart. Upon tasting, there's not a thing wrong with this whiskey...at this price. As the label says, it's bottled at "a gentle 80 proof". But IMO, that doesn't mean it's flavorless. The nice 8 years of age give it a good backbone. Plenty going on in this whiskey. I understand the value ratio we put on certain whiskies, but sometimes, I think that we enthusiasts give short shrift to "soft" bourbon. These, "soft" bourbons are made that way by design. But, "soft" is not synonymous with "bland and boring", IMO. It's entirely understandable why we tend to ignore these type of bourbons, based on the plethora of whiskies that we taste. Naturally, we're looking for Bigger, Stronger, Faster. But, I'm often left thinking we're overlooking a segment that should be contemplated on, and appreciated, more.

I actually toyed with this one today but passed it up in favor of a liter of OGD BiB for $19. I like the 114 but this is very similar, and I actually cut the 114 down to about 100 pf anyway.

Speaking of which, I wonder how old BH would fare if you vatted it with some 114 to bring it up in strength a little.
