Doing a little traveling through Indiana, saw one lonely bottle of PVW 23 for $314.99. Pass. I can buy too many other excellent bottles for a fraction of that price.

Saw the most Sazerac I have ever run across. Saz 18, Handy and what I guess I have read here as Baby Saz. Have read plenty about them (mostly good), but already had swveral bottles in my hand for purchase. Maybe if they are still there next time.

Passed on an Old Charter Proprietor's Reserve for $40. I know, I know, I shouldn't pass these sort of things up, but I had the other OCPR in my hand, one in the bunker, a box full of dusties in my truck, and a girlfriend looking over my shoulder.

I was at a store today that had several bottles of the older 86 proof Jack Daniels.:skep: I didn't buy any for myself, but I did get a handle and a 750 for a friend.

I agree with you on the handy and baby as I have a few of those bunkered but I don't think I can ever remember passing up saz 18!

It came down to the Pappy 20 or the Saz 18. Rye, with the exception of Beam Rye does not seem to move all that fast around here. (I assume it is a price thing), so the odds are much better of the Saz sticking around than the Pappy.

I walked into a situation not long ago where the store had 1 WLW '11, 1 PVW20, 1 Lot B and 4 Saz 18. Figuring at least 1 Saz would still be there in a week, I bought the others. Of course, all of them were gone when I returned. Can't say that I "lost" at all though...

Yeah, that would be a tough call to make!

Passed on some Russell's Reserve 101 tonight. Bit shocked to see at least five bottles in the store. I'll go back there this weekend to purchase one. They also had the WT 12 there.

Really? Both of those are excellent bourbons. Expect inquiries.

Had a bottle of Redbreast Cask Strength in hand, but put it back for Ritt instead. If the CS is there next time I'll grab it, as I have been anxious to try it.

While I am sure this is the case, I got 2.5 Ritt for what I would have spent on one CS. Trying to keep a little powder dry in case I get a crack at some Pappy this month.

Humm... Chunkin' up a post like that will lead to a full PM box. LMAO. I'm good BTW.

And those PMers are bound to be disappointed unless they're in Australia!

Haha - that's probably also the reason they're still on the shelf.

Passed up a Woodford Reserve Master's Collection Rye 375ml 2-pack at $100.

I was very tempted, but I was there to pick up an 18yr Bunnahabhain single malt at $80 that I'd been holding off on getting for too long.

Saz 18 and Pappy on the self in NJ? Please share the store as I've been looking for a Saz 18 for some time and really don't want to pay the $120 plus shipping that i'm finding online

Passed on PHC Wheat for $130 at the Heaven Hill Gift Shop...maybe someone else is interested in it for that price -- the Gift Shop had probably 30 bottles.

It was in the [Redacted - don't need flippers ruining that store in the future] . Not there any longer as I went back for the Saz 18 (and had already taken the Pappy). Sorry.

Jeez. Price gouging their own juice. I have not been to any of the distilleries yet, is this normal practice?

Yes, it is a normal practice. The distilleries are protecting their local retailers by pricing at high enough a level that they are not risking selling at a lower price than the retailers.

I passed on a couple WTKS dark smooth tops from '05 for $60. It would have been the newest and most expensive WTKS I'd bought.

Also passed on a couple handles of Heaven Hill 86 proof from 1985 for $21. I'd imagine this is tasty, but below Evan Williams 7 in the lineup. Probably worth the Jackson, but it's a lot of whiskey if it isn't.

To a certain extent yes, not undercutting the hands that feed them-retailers. But $130? Crazy. MM 46 was low $40s at distillery, mid $30s retail. I would have guessed PHC10 wheated at $90-100 at Heaven Hill before reading this.
