And how it is?  I am always looking for good Tequila.

This was opened!

Villa Lobos blanco is on the light side, so I was curious to see whether the anejo would swamp it.

The nose is a very pleasant combo of vanilla, earth minerally agave, some citrus (lemon I think) and pepper.

Taste is similar, more vanilla, oak and more prominent agave, very light chocolate.

Finish is all of the above with some faint mint, mojito-esque.

Worth a go!

Did something a little different today, I made me a good old margarita on the rocks while I was getting some steaks ready to cook this afternoon.

For your own safety and health please step away from the sweet and sour mix!!! ☠️

Get some agave syrup and squeeze some limes. Your palate will thank me! ?

This was left over from my sons graduation party, but I understand your point 100%.

So I bought a Fortaleza Reposado myself yesterday, having my second pour now. I’m not impressed, the nose is right, but the taste is very off. Not much flavor and tons of ethanol & burn. The color is also lighter than I remember. Have you guys seen batch variations like this? Very disappointing that a trusted staple under-delivers.

I recently had the opportunity to taste the full Fortaleza line up. I really liked the Blanco, but I have to agree with you that the Reposado was not very good...wasn’t that impressed with the Anejo either. I was really expecting to be blown away by Fortaleza given all the great reviews and comments that I’ve read, but unfortunately the Blanco is the only bottle I’ll be seeking after my recent tasting.

Interesting. Blanco is my favorite too, but to be clear, I enjoy all of their expressions and have killed several bottles of the anejos and reposados of my own. This new bottle is really out of character.

That repo does look a bit light in comparison to usual. It is all batches of course so susceptible to variation. I've been sipping their 2019 Winter Blend recently, whilst it's very good it doesn't really warrant the price for me, I'd rather have a couple of the still strength.

I’m wondering if they are having some quality control issues then. The bottles that I tasted were new bottles that I actually broke the seal on myself. I was really expecting to be wowed by this brand, but was Instead left with a bitter taste in my mouth (pun intended). I may have to revisit them at some point, but for now I’m only interested in the Blanco.

I picked up the cheap Olmeca Altos Plata ($21) and I'm thrilled with it for margs and even to sip.

From everything I read, I should grab the reposado, too, but I thought I'd run by here first.  Is that an equally good value at $23?

I think it is one of the best in that price range.  They use a tahona (big stone wheel) to crush the agave in processing.  It's a more traditional method. ?

This Mi Campo Reposado has become a fixture of my bar lately. I had seen positive reviews of it & decided to give it a try when it was on sale here for about $22.

On it’s own, it tastes remarkably like a nice house-made margarita to me, which makes for a very enjoyable daily sipper.

It’s a 100% blue agave tequila which is aged for 3 months in wine barrels which held either Cabernet Sauvignon or Pinot Noir. They also make a blanco which is aged in Chardonnay barrels, but i’ve Yet to try that one.

Enjoying some Fortaleza Still Strength this evening.

Hmm, didn’t know about this. Will need to look for it! Often hard to find good tequila at higher proof.

Although 92 proof is not as high as I might have hoped. And apparently for the Blanco only.

They do a 'Winter Blend' Reposado which is over 90 proof, but probably even harder to find than the Still Strength. We had the 2019 here recently, it's good but I don't think worth the premium. The 2020 is just out I think.

Speaking of higher proof tequila, I have been ramping up some reposados by blending in some higher proof blancos. Tapatio 110 with their 76 proof reposado. I also pimped up some 80 proof mezcal with the 110 Tapatio to give it some oomph. Worked well. The experiments continue.

Hoping to find some Villa Lobos 110 soon, just launched. Cheers!

Yeah, I saw the winter blend 2020 at my "agave store" but it is out of stock and it does seem a bit spendy to me.

And that went down super fast. I realize I’d missed kicking back with a no-frills tequila. I’ll grab another bottle of similar caliber over the weekend.

It's been forever since I've been around...considering I started this topic in 2012.  It's good to see that people are still enjoying the agave distillates.

I will echo that while I enjoy all Fortaleza, the blanco is where the value is at.  Don Pilar anejo is my go to for $40.  Terralta is great across the whole line.  Salud amigos!
