Binny's hand picked Willet 9 yo. Not sure how I feel about this one yet. Starts with a burst of flavor of green fruit then smacks with rye spice but finishes incredibly tannic and dry. Nothing like their 8 yo Wheater. Still great for a 9 year rye bourbon

Slept like crap Monday night due to an on-coming head cold so I poured a small glass of '08 WLW and slept like a lamb last night. It really is made for medicinal purposes. Really!

I was traveling thru NC and I stopped by Halifax's house for some sampling. m_jolley and C2Walker stopped over as well last night. We hit some

samples that I brought along (Willett 18yr Doug/Willz 8550/8551, Kenwood EC18, FR OBSK SB), and some small pours of WT 8 export, ND OGD 114 and Very Old St. Nick Rye 17yr from Rod's bunker.

Somewhere in between we decided to hone in on Four Roses, and the bottles started to open and flow.

- FR LE Small Batch 2012

- FR LE Small Batch 2010

- FR Mariage 2009

- FR MAWLS P&C #3 OBSV

- FR 1789b P&C #1 OESK

- FR 1789b #1 OBSV

- FR Gift Shop 17yr Barrel 18

There were some great bottles sampled last night and I really love what FR's is doing!

High West Rendezvous Rye. I didn't begin to truly appreciate this one until I got into my second bottle.

Is it just me, or does anyone else make their nightly choice by nosing different bottles? I find that the "nose knows".

A particularly good bottle of EC 18. Very creamy...touch of tobacco. I like it. I've found that if I'm going to drink a 90 proofer it has to be the first pour of the night.

opened my bottle of PVW15 last night that i picked up the night before. just the opening of the bottle filled the surrounding air with warm, sweet aromas. after pouring, the 15 minutes of air time i told myself i would give it seemed like an eternity. first sip still had a little fire on the front end but after a couple of seconds the full effect of this great whisky presented. this is a bottle i'll savor for weeks

I enjoyed them both at the Binny's sampler the other day but greatly preferred the wheater myself. Sounds like you may be in the same boat.

Completely. The wheater is exceptional and so is the 4 year rye they picked but the 9 not so much. Hope you're well Bunk

Bob I'd love to hear how y'all thought the Small Batch 2012 held up versus the competition. Let us know. Inquiring minds here!

There wasn't a bad bottle in the bunch, but I believe that we all had the 2012 LE SmB in the bottom half.

I would say the 09 Mariage was rated the best of the batch bottlings (2012, 2010, 2009). Come by sometime and you can try them all yourself! ;) Edited by hectic1

IIRC we each had a different favorite, but 09 Mariage was near the top for everyone. I need to find myself some more!

Now that's an offer I can't refuse especially being a fellow ND fan! You let me know when you're free and we can meet up after the Thanksgiving holiday. Look forward to it!

Old Forrester 2007 B'Day - hoping to kill this bottle over the next week or two only because it takes up too much room in the cabinet. Oh - and because it's fantastic!

Had some Ritt 21 and Ritt BIB while watching the game. Guess I was feeling some heaven hill since I was too tired to drive out to the Bernie Lubbers dinner tonight. Had 11 mile run today in prep for a half marathon on thanksgiving. Last day of drinking for a week :shithappens:
