ebo
Dewar's is mainly a combination of Aberfeldy and Craigellachie, one from Higlands, the other Speyside, and a loving spoonful of lighter fluid. And I still like it better than JWR.
squire
The Dewar comments remind me of William Faulkner's reply when asked what he drank."Bourbon, corn whisky, between scotch and nothing I'll drink scotch".

black mamba
Another vote for Clan MacGregor as the worst. However, the most disappointing for me, and truly offputting, was a bottle of 18 yr Macallan I bought for my Christmas present to myself about 15 years ago. The Glenlivet 12, Dimple Pinch and even the handle of Crawford's I had at the time all put the Macallan in the shade. What a waste of money! Alden
You are the second person that has told me wasn't wild for the 18. The other guy said the 12 was much better.

squire
I can recommend the Macallan 18 that was distilled prior to 1982 but have had little experience with the stuff bottled recently.
Dolph Lundgren
I bought a liter of Trader Joes stuff - pretty, pretty, pretty bad. Only $13.99, though.

Alden
I took a day off, but just now had a pour of Talisker 10. Definitely on the list. The other list.
Jono
The first scotch I ever tried, as a youthful fool, was Passport Scotch at a party. I was not impressed and did not enjoy the "excess symptoms".I have not touched it since and it may have put me off whiskey for quite awhile.Somebody likes it:http://www.drinksite.com/product.php?prod_id=664This one is closer to the mark for me:http://www.bestshotwhiskyreviews.com/2011/12/tasting-notes-passport-blended-scotch.html Edited May 28, 2013 by Jono

It's very similar to any other well scotch, Scorsby, Usher's, etc. They are all pretty much the same. Not terrible, but not that good either. There are only a few that really taste flat out bad to me.
squire
Jojo I would place a little more faith in the first reviewer because the second is so uninformed he doesn't know all Scottish Whisky is a minimum of three years old.
WhiskyToWhiskey
I have never had a really bad scotch. Red Label was probably the one I didn't care for too much. From other forums I have read.....Drumguish is the alltime worst. Tasting notes were....like licking the inside of an ashtray.
Jono
If somebody had a bottle at a social gathering I might try the Passport again after 30 years just to compare my youthful inexperienced tongue to today.
timd
From other forums I have read.....Drumguish is the alltime worst. Tasting notes were....like licking the inside of an ashtray. That's an insult to ashtrays.I've had a few pretty nasty Single Malts - but most were either fouled (corked, sulphured, etc.) and were one-offs that you just don't see often.Blends can be watery and weak, but for the most part I find the worst to be rather tasteless, rather than bad-tasting.When it comes to regular releases you can find almost anywhere - even at the low price around $25 - nothing is worse than Drumguish.I get no smoke/peat at all - it's just farmy. Like the worst qualities of white dog (farmy, grainy, young/green) mixed with off-putting barnyard notes of horse manure, pig slop and cow patties. It's so painfully earthy and dirty that I can't believe anybody actually thinks it was a good idea as a one-off, much less a regular production item.3 years and a day old, if you told me it was left overnight in a wooden horse trough and fouled by the animals surrounding it, and the trough was the only wood influence available, I'd think you were being kind. jtgraves
Once, in a dusty hunting frenzy, I bought a handle of Old Smuggler simply b/c it had a tax strip. To quote the ralph from the simpsons, "It tastes like burning." Lesson learned: old crappy whisky is still crappy whisky.
sutton
Another vote for Loch Dhu - tasted like a tire fire.Standard Cutty Sark wasn't bad, it just didn't taste like anything - sort of like viscous water, with a pinch of honey.
