Well that sucks and is a big fail.

Unfotunaterly it was a fitting end to a forgettable meal at a mediocre “whiskey bar.”

The company I was with was excellent though-- and that's what really matters.

Appropriate shirt and pour for today— the shop regained only a fraction of our three- phase power, so only a tease with dim lights and occasional coffeemaker— no a/c, WiFi or computers. But, it’s progress— so many thanks to the hard-working crews out there.

Dave, I forget the company name (sure there's more than one).  I've been seeing these ads for solar cells that go on the roof and charge a big battery or series of batteries.  I know that's been around a long time, but I think the technology has improved where it's a viable option for regular people.

Years ago, I wanted to accept a teaching job in NOLA.  I couldn't talk wifey into moving there.

At least you're not short on refreshments.  I believe everything will get sorted out.

Oh, and the non whiskey spirit I'm drinking (in honor of The Big Easy) - Absinthe.  I finally got some of the real stuff - Mephisto made in Austria 130 proof from original 1909 recipe.  It's tasty, glad I finally satisfied the urge.  I can see drinking this every once in a while, join the club with the old bad boy authors.

Thanks! Given my luck, the solar panels would get ripped off the roof by the hurricane face winds-- but certainly worth looking into. My teenage son is a solar power fanatic-- so I'll task him up. Luckily my severe decline in business and school-releated travel over the past two years has set me up with a large inventory of “gifting” bottles-- so I've set my wife and kids up with some air-conditioned accommodations courtesy of Col. Blanton.

Comfort food-- the George Dickel of bitter digestifs… maybe I should try a 50/50 cocktail with some Dickel distillate.

Nice-- cuts the sweetness, ups the proof and intensifies the general “mountain” earthiness.

A wee inland rum punch to start the day-- lamenting the loss of all of my open vermouth, creme, advocaat and other egg-based liqueurs. I'm assuming the champagne is toast as well.

This really seems like a fall evening so I felt like some apple brandy was in order. This one is aged in rye barrels.

Yes, the temperature in the cold vault topped out at 91˚F-- almost the times the normal 36˚F.

I suspect the low ABV aperitifs, non-alcs and organics are cooked as well.

I feel like that's for tequila shots.  But my tequila shot days are long behind me.  Admittedly, I shot it out of whatever the bar had.  The champagne flute night at Pappasitos in 2001 was a really bad night.

Hotel room bottle kill— two trips in less than a week is not as easy as it used to be prior to the pandemic. Putting my Costco flan jar through its paces.

Yeah, I've also struggled with the resumption of work travel. Got it back down now but the first few were rough.

All of my hard-earned contacts— taxi drivers, bell captains, desk managers, restaurant managers (and restaurants themselves), liquor store owners/clerks, bartenders, sky caps, etc. are gone.

I’m just another asshole.

I laughed out loud when I read this Dave. I have a couple of reasons. First off, I’m also just another asshole. Well, maybe sometimes. Yeah, I can admit it. 🙄 The second reason goes back to an argument I witnessed many years ago. One guy in the argument was proven wrong and yelled “You’re an asshole!”  to the other guy. The other guy replied in a very matter of fact way, “Well, I’ve been called worse by better people.” I will neither confirm nor deny that I might have been “the other guy”.   😂

Coffee & B&B after dinner with clients. Should be able to score a Fernet-Branca once I get to the city later.

Already had coffee, so it’s a Laphroaig 10 with Fernet-Branca at the hotel bar. Long damn day, but a good one.

While in NYC, should head down to Little Italy for Feast of San Gennaro. Going with wife and a couple of the kids later today.

You got my wheels a-turnin' with the peat and spice combo of an Islay malt and Italian Fernet.  Will be SBS sipping tonight; ya know, for science!

Fernet-Branca must be allocated these days, as it's no longer a guaranteed backbar presence.

Had to resort to Green Chartreuse-- which at least made for great conversation with the kids.
