squire
Squire, what do you know about Ancient Age BIB I remember Ancient Age BIB as being a well rounded, balanced whisky. More for what it wasn't than what it was, the usual Bourbon elements of wood, caramel and spice present yet kept in restraint, not being marred by a discordant off note. Nothing exceptional, nothing wrong, good mixer.
squire
they also fully restocked the shelf with AAA 10 year 1.75's. last week they had one and i thought that would be the last one i saw. there were 8 today. not that i care, i dont want any......too low a proof. You might want to grab a few anyway Doug, hold them for 10 years then trade 'em for something you do want. squire
Give a though to what any 10 year old Bourbon will be selling for ten years from now.
fishnbowljoe
Squire, what do you know about Ancient Age BIB and Old Weller Original? I haven't seen an AA BIB since the early '90s. Wish I had tasting notes but back then I thought bourbon was just something you drank. I didn't know I was suppoed to obsess about it and get ready for a quiz on Monday.I remember Ancient Age BIB as being a well rounded, balanced whisky. More for what it wasn't than what it was, the usual Bourbon elements of wood, caramel and spice present yet kept in restraint, not being marred by a discordant off note. Nothing exceptional, nothing wrong, good mixer. The AA BIB was discontinued two or three years ago. I received a bottle courtesy of another member one time, and really liked it. After that, I was lucky enough to find a couple of 750's, and a small stash of 200 ml's. I still have one 750 and a few of the 200's left. I don't open one very often. I like it that much. Squire's notes were pretty good, although I think it's a pretty darned good sipper too. I'd rate it slightly above the HH 6yr BIB and EW BIB. fishnbowljoe
I can't pick just one favorite BIB. I have a few.As far as current offerings go, I'd pick EW BIB and HH White Label 6yr BIB. Both really good, and both reasonably priced too. With both, you get more than what you paid for, for a change. Great value pours IMHO.For dusty BIB's, I like Old Fitz BIB and Old Forester BIB. Doesn't get much better than these two. Personally, I think I'd give the edge to the Old Forester BIB. I know a lot of folks here would disagree because of the SW connection with the Old Fitz. Just my personal preference.
sutton
are there that many raving AAA 10 year fans? despite all the hype of discontinuing it, theres been no shortage of it anywhere that ive seen.I have to get mine shipped in, at a hefty premium when you include the shipping costs - kind of jealous you can find it in a pharmacy of all places!BiB pickings are slim around me - I'd say OGD BiB and VOB BiB are my favorites - and the latter I also have to ship in. I'd like to find a HH BiB, but most likely I'll have to get these shipped as well. So imagine what those are really costing me! WAINWRIGHT
Currently available?HH 6yr hands down on the profile per dollar scale, amazing stuff!Too bad it's.......damn shame!I would agree with Joe partially in the dusty category,I love me some Old Fitz BIB, it's magically delicious! mbroo5880i
are there that many raving AAA 10 year fans? despite all the hype of discontinuing it, theres been no shortage of it anywhere that ive seen.I have only recently tried it. I had to buy it in KY. So, right now, it is not a must have. However, if I lived in KY, it would be. I like it about as much as Blanton's which I like a lot. They are very similar in taste, even with the proof difference. Unfortunately, it is not available in central Indiana.
TheNovaMan
I actually think that OGD has more of a rye bite to it than Ritt.
Jackinbox
My favorite BIB would have to be the EHTSmB. I have yet to try the SB. OGD and VOB are tied for a close second.
brettckeen
The 10 yr is great, next time yer in Chicago swing by for a taste.i assume OHH is old heaven hill?wasnt aware of a 10 year. i knew there was an 8 year, but it was long gone before i learned of bourbon. is the 6 year going away now? ive seen posts reporting that. brettckeen
The malted milk ball taste of Old Forester BIB is awesome, SW Old Fitz BIB is another great pour. But I really just love that HH 10yr it is well put together, comparing it to the Henry McKenna which is a single barrel 10yr BIB, the Mckenna has been in my experience super thin, lacks the nice mouthfeel of hh10yr. 393foureyedfox
since the 8 year is no more, i am assuming when you guys talk about 10 year heaven hill, you are talking about stuff you hoarded years ago and is long since gone?

boneuphtoner
This thread is yet another example of how everyone's palate is different. I'm seeing alot of love for EWBIB. I certainly like it, but for my taste VOB and Old Forester are far better.

I like the EW BIB and the VOB BIB about equally (which is NOT to say I think they taste the same), but I'm not such a fan of the Old Forester 100. Deliciousness is in the mouth of the beholder. tanstaafl2
I suppose my favorite BIB is not a bourbon but Rittenhouse Rye. Always try to have a couple in the house. Very flexible as a cocktail mixer and not bad on its own right.
Lost Pollito
If I have to pick one, it will always be VOB. $14. Perfect on its own, or mixed with Ale-8-one, and a ton of ice.
bmajazz
If we're including discontinued like OF BiB, I'm surprised no one mentioned ND OGD BiB. I have a number of bottles and I think it's really terrific. Tried the EW BiB since I could find it back in Virginia. Good but not exceptional imho. p_elliott
Haven't seen it mentioned yet, I love the JTS Brown BIB.I'd give my right you know what for a Bottle of JTS Brown signed by Paul Newman. That's what Fast Eddie orders in "The Hustler" as he's playing Minnesota Fats. Edited July 12, 2013 by p_elliott
TunnelTiger
Another vote for EWBIB because it's the only one tried so far as I start my journey down the bourbon trail.
