393foureyedfox
ive tried about a half dozen BIBs so far, and if someone wanted to give me just ONE, i think i would go with the EW BIB myself. its just a teeeeeeeny bit better than the HH 6 year white though.I plan to polish off the rest of my EW BIB tomorrow, as we are having a spicy chicken fry and games night with a dozen people coming over, and one of them is a big EW black fan. I bet he will finish it off himself, if i dont keep an eye on him. i want one more shot before its gone to see what i think about it again, as its been a few weeks since I had any. PaulO
Haven't seen it mentioned yet, I love the JTS Brown BIB. I mentioned JTS Brown. I can't talk about bonds without bringing up that one. Given that all the HH bonds (except for Old Fitz) are the same mash bill, I wonder how JTS turns out noticeably different? I suppose it could be aged in a different location from the others, maybe barrel selection, or both. When I first saw it in a store years ago, I was afraid to try it because of the low bottom shelf price. Then after I tried it, I wondered if they had put the wrong price, or it was some kind of close out. Ignore the price. It's a really solid pour. I would easily prefer it to many more popular and expensive whiskies.
squire
I would call the HH BIBs variations on a theme as we did find slight differences in blind tastings over the years, specifically between HH 6 yr, EWW, JTS Brown and Dant.
boneuphtoner
This thread is yet another example of how everyone's palate is different. I'm seeing alot of love for EWBIB. I certainly like it, but for my taste VOB and Old Forester are far better. You know, I may have to take back this comment. Since I recently tried (and really enjoyed) a Dant BIB, which is a sibling of EW BIB, I picked up another bottle of EW BIB. MUCH better than the older one I had...must have been an off bottle as it had a couple of unpleasant traces of something that I did not care for.Now I can't decide which is better, EW or Dant BIB. I can get Dant cheaper around here. The Dant has a superior cotton candy nose which is very cool. The EW might be a touch better integrated, but not by much. Anyone ever do a head-to-head of these two?
squire
Yes, several times over the years, I would buy whichever one is cheaper in your area.
Sasquatch
Dant or JTS Brown for me. Heaven Hill is king for BiB in my opinion. I could easily pick Virgin as the best value for BiB, but I've only drank two bottles so it's still.. virgin territory.
JPBoston
I only have two BiBs available in AZ (to my knowledge)... OGD and Old Fitz.Of the two, I'll take OGD. We do have Ritt Rye BiB... haven't tried that yet.

squire
Fats ordered some "White Horse" whisky in the book but in the movie the name was changed to "White Tavern".
ramblinman
hard call, on the bourbon side probably EWBiB, but overall my favorite BiB would have to be Rittenhouse, just love that musty minty character combined with the sweetness from it being a "barely legal" rye. To my taste drinks beautifully neat.
Dolph Lundgren
I'm a huge fan of the ND OGD BIB. I only have a couple bottles but I cherish them dearly - its got more of the caramel in the ND OGD 86 with very little added bite. But enough reminiscing about dinosaurs...As for current BIBs, I'd have to go with the VOB BIB. Tasty and cheap. What more do you need?

Conquistador
FYI. If you are thinking about trying the Henry McKenna 10 year old single barrel BIB, Heaven Hill just announced a new/updated packaging for the product, along with what looks like a slight price increase ($29.99 for a 750ml bottle). I've been able to find the current bottling at the regular price of $26.99, and infrequently as low as $22.99 on sale. The juice is still 10 years old, so it will be a better deal to buy now, rather than later.http://kybourbontrail.com/heaven-hill-distilleries-unveils-new-packaging-for-henry-mckenna-bourbon-family/?fb_source=pubv1
squire
Very nice but new packaging will also mean higher prices so get 'em while we can.

suntour
Why does Heaven Hill hate fonts so much? Major upgrade on the packaging in general but that lettering is pre-90s hideousness. :slappin:I really want to try this (even having heard multiple mixed reviews) and I must secure an old-bottle so I can have the ugliest packaging in whiskey. MyOldKyDram
That font may be hideous, but it beats the hell outta that velvet craft project old bottle.
